Conversations with Ericka Corban

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ericka Corban.

Hi Ericka, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Music has been woven into my life since I was a teenager, though for years it lived mainly within the four walls of a church. That’s where I first found my voice—and learned how powerful music can be in connecting hearts. But it wasn’t until after I became a mom that things started to shift. I was invited to open for a national act coming through our city, and that night lit a spark in me. Soon after, I got asked to perform at a local winery, and that’s where I began building a cover repertoire—learning how to connect with people through songs they already knew and loved, while still bringing my own style to each performance.

From there, the journey just kept growing. I’ve spent years refining my craft, writing original music, and showing up in spaces big and small. Today, I’m honored to be booked by an agency that sends me to high-end venues across the U.S.—and it’s still surreal to hear my original songs featured in indie films or streaming on Starbucks global playlist.

About five years ago, my husband and I made a wild decision: we sold our home in western Washington, bought an RV in Mesa, Arizona, and hit the road full-time with our five amazing kids. It’s been the adventure of a lifetime! Arizona quickly became one of our favorite places to land. There’s something about the desert landscapes, the sun-drenched skies, and the creative energy here that just stirs the soul. We’ve spent several winters in the Phoenix area and love being part of the local music scene—playing everywhere from Mastro’s and Morton’s to the stunning new Asian-inspired steakhouse, Three Thirty Three.

It’s been a winding path—filled with music, movement, and meaning—and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Not even close—figuratively and literally! 😉 I mean, try cramming seven people into a 36-foot RV and tell me that doesn’t build character! Some people hear about our setup and think we’re totally crazy—and honestly, maybe we are a little! But we’ve learned to embrace the chaos. That’s actually why we head south for the winter: we’re big believers in living outdoors as much as possible. And when the kids start bouncing off the walls, I just send them outside to rock climb, swim in the lake or ride around on their bikes.
Over the years, we’ve definitely hit some bumps—like being stranded on the side of the highway with flat tires (more than once!), or navigating roads so bumpy it felt like we were driving through an earthquake. But beyond the obvious mechanical hiccups, one of the biggest ongoing challenges is just the logistics. Things like figuring out where we’re going to park, how to refill our water, or where to dump our tanks can be time consuming. It takes a lot of planning and flexibility to make this lifestyle work.

But here’s the thing: when we pull up and the Grand Canyon is our front yard for the day, or we’re watching the sunset over red rocks in Sedona, it’s all 100% worth it. RV life has allowed us to explore places we used to only see in magazines or on Instagram—and now, we get to call those places “home,” whether for a day, a week, or as long as our hearts feel like staying. The road might not always be smooth, but it’s been one of the most rewarding rides of our lives.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I do spans a few different worlds—but the heart behind all of it is the same: I want to be a bright light and help others shine, too.

Musically, I have the unique ability to move seamlessly between very different environments—from leading worship in a church setting to performing at a luxury dinner party or wedding reception. It’s something I’ve come to realize sets me apart. A lot of artists find it difficult to navigate both spaces, but for me, it’s always felt natural. Whether I’m guiding people into a moment of deep worship or bringing joyful nostalgia to a fancy evening crowd, I show up as the same person. I think that authenticity and consistency—just being real with people—allows me to connect on a deeper level no matter where I’m singing.

I’m also a published children’s book author with five titles out in the world. One of my favorite parts of what I do is visiting elementary schools across the country. I get to read my books, sing to the kids, and share stories from our travels. Watching their faces light up as we talk about creativity, kindness, and chasing dreams is one of the most rewarding things in my life. I want kids to know that they were made with a purpose, that they each have a unique gift inside of them, and that they can absolutely make the world a better place.

I’m proud of the music, the books, the shows, and the miles we’ve traveled as a family—but more than anything, I’m proud of the way I’ve stayed true to who I am through it all. I never want to fit into just one box. My goal is simple: to live fully, love big, and reflect light in every space I step into.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My number one piece of advice? Just start.

For years, I let perfectionism hold me back. I was so afraid of not being “ready” that I didn’t give myself permission to grow in public. One of my biggest regrets is not posting more on YouTube when I first started singing. I kept thinking, “I need to be better,” and in the end, that mindset kept me from sharing my heart and making meaningful progress. Honestly, I look back and wonder if I could’ve been one of those early YouTube discoveries—but I was too wrapped up in fear to just hit “record.”

So if you’re just starting out, don’t wait until you feel perfectly polished. You won’t be. And that’s okay. Growth is the whole point. The more you sing, the better you get. The more you write, the better you get. People actually love to witness the journey—it’s inspiring to watch someone evolve and find their voice in real time.

Another piece of advice is, be open to collaboration. I used to think I had to write songs completely on my own, but stepping into co-writing sessions—especially with professionals in places like Nashville—completely changed the game for me. Some of my favorite songs have come out of co-writes with people I’d just met that day! I never realized how much I’d love songwriting until I started writing with others. It’s not just about creating better songs—it’s about becoming a better artist, and a better human, through the process of sharing creativity.

Bottom line: don’t let fear or pride or perfectionism keep you from stepping into your calling. Show up. Keep going. And let your journey speak louder than your doubts.
