Conversations with Erica Tierno

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Tierno.

Hi Erica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Hi beautiful souls!

I am Erica Tierno (@eica_artebohemia) an Italian tattoo artist and painter with a solid background in art studies, from art college to the Academy of Fine Arts.

Since my youngest age, I knew my life will be based on my love for art and beauty, and here we go! For the last 10 years of my life, I have been traveling with my van and my partner (an artist and chef) around Europe working on different artistic projects and guesting in different tattoo studios.

I find my inspiration in the beauty of the sea, flora, and fauna, traveling, and visiting amazing places in our world.

I am the co-founder and owner of the Bohemian Garden, a concept where everybody can Bloom, a platform for artists and creative minds to show themselves and help other people to do the same! For 1 year Bohemian Garden became a pop-up eco tattoo studio and atelier, in a stunning place on the Portuguese coast, surrounded by nature and facing the ocean, a dream in a place.

The love and the connection with nature are part of my daily life, that’s why I choose to work in a more sustainable way, using eco-friendly materials and vegan inks. I am working on a project with a survivor of breast cancer, to use the power of my tattoo art to change their life covering the scars from the surgery. For now, is a work in progress, but we really believe it’s important to go forward with it!

Like a wave, I bring powerful and positive energy and the stories of the people I met on my way, and as soon as I arrive I will already be on my next adventure, trailing behind the art, experiences, and new connections which magnetize my return.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have to say that I have always been pretty lucky in my life.

My family always supported me in my artistic path and my crazy way to be. Of course, being an artist has its pros and cons, but one thing is sure: we have the ability to reinvent ourselves every day and do our passion in our life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am very connected to nature, and my last few years living my van life accentuated this feeling.

People around Europe know me as an artist of flowers, femininity, and nature and right now I am working on my projects of botanical printing on skin and eco tattooing. Basically, I am working on an artistic combo with Mother Nature.

During full moon days, I walk in the forest collecting charged leaves, I walk on the seashore collecting seashells and I hike around absorbing the perfection of the golden ratio. Then, during my eco tattoo sessions, I use them to create art pieces on people’s skin, through rituals: my sensibility, the power of nature, and the story of the people are making my art come true.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I didn’t know what I would become or what I would do, but I knew that my power is in my creativity and in my hands and art was my direction. My suggestion: do what you are, don’t pretend because is tiring, you will have to give up.

But if you do what you are, you won’t have to do anything more than improve yourself and you will make it!
