Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Joseph.
Hi Edward, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Music has always been at the forefront of my interests. My musical tendencies always leaned towards percussion-based sounds in pop and alternative grunge music. When I was in the 5th grade, I began taking percussion lessons and later was drumming alongside my other musically talented friends in bands.
Eight years ago, I started attending major music festivals at the age of 20 and quickly found an interest in electronic dance music. It was at that time that I began to dedicate most of my energy to learning how to electronically produce my own songs and learn how to DJ.
After DJing in small clubs around the valley for a few years with my two best friends, I was chosen to compete in the 2021 AZ Goldrush DJ Competition hosted by Relentless Beats. Having placed 2nd in the competition was a huge milestone for me, and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to be given the opportunity to showcase the messages that my style of music presents.
The competition was a huge turning point in my progression, and still impacts my career today. Following the competition, I have been seen playing events at Sunbar Tempe, Shady Park Tempe, Decadence Arizona, and Goldrush Music Festival in support of profound artists such as Kream, SIDEPIECE, Le Youth, Amtrac, and Aluna.
These shows have also brought my music to new heights, and have assisted me in reaching over 300,000 streams online with my most popular songs being “Golden Hour” and my remix to Justin Irby’s “Your Love”.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hardship is inevitable when you’re going against the grain in pursuing a life that has a rather low success rate. It took a while for some of the people that are closest to me to accept my career choice as they had other aspirations for me to guarantee financial stability. It was a heartbreaking chapter for me but it certainly helped fuel the fire in pursuing my dream.
Another big struggle for me was the passing of my best friend Jay, who was one of my most valuable music collaborators. I’ve been doing my very best to continue on the journey that Jay and I sought out so evidently. I take every bit and piece of knowledge that I learned from him, and of course, each and every part that we learned together, and apply it to my art, my health, my loved ones, and anyone that gives me the opportunity to do so.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My main line of work lies within audio engineering as a music producer. I specialize in mixing and mastering music not only for myself but for other artists as well. Bringing visions to life in order to guide listeners to their desired outcomes through art is where my passion holds its truth.
Personally, my music is best known for guiding listeners through their most vulnerable moments. I’m afraid of living in a world of absent identity, and with the help of my art, if I can encourage others to be their truest most authentic self, then I have fulfilled my purpose.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
During Covid, I learned just how important it is to not take anything for granted because, within the blink of an eye, everything can be taken away from you. And in the rush to return to normal, I took the time to consider which parts of normal are worth rushing back to.
