Today we’d like to introduce you to Davis Page.
Hi Davis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Stepping into event production, DJing, and the entire electronic music scene for me was a natural progression, one that I never expected when I first moved to Phoenix, Arizona, back in 2015. I moved to Phoenix from San Diego, CA, to attend Arizona State University. While attending, I met new friends who exposed me to the Arizona rave scene by taking me to my first local electronic music event, Full Moon Festival. It was another world I had never experienced before, one so full of self-expression, connection, and a love for music that I’d been searching for all through my adolescence. I was hooked.
I started learning music production on Ableton, DJing for small crowds of 5-10 people in local dive bars, and eventually hosting house parties under my now event-production company, “The Crypt”. Fast forward to today, and The Crypt crew and I have thrown over 60+ events across the valley, from nightclubs to warehouses, playing chest-thumping electronic music for people who search for the same thing I was looking for all these years ago, a community of weirdos.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Making your way in the entertainment industry is rife with struggle. As any other artist knows, working in the creative field is extremely difficult; not only do you take on the challenge of making great art, but making a name for yourself. You need to become your publicist, social media manager, and booking agent, while managing a social life, and making enough cash to keep a roof over your head and food in your stomach. Many times, I’ve found myself broke and without a home, taking up shelter on the couch of a well-intentioned friend. Times like these, though, when the chips are down and you’re doubting yourself, are the moments you look back on to remind yourself of how far you’ve come.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My art-work consists of promoting, creating content, producing music, and DJing, balanced with my work-work in growth marketing of start-ups and small businesses.
What I’ve specialized in is bringing people together, curating containers (either in person or online) that match up the right product with the right audience. This, I believe, is what strings all my different passions together. Everything from my event promotion company and music collective, The Crypt, to my full-time job as growth marketing manager of ProPlaintiff.ai, to my electronic music project, Dalle. Working music festivals, throwing underground raves, DJing, and making music with people, it’s all led to a lot of opportunities and friendships that I owe to this community. Sometimes it’s hard to recognize when you might be doing too much or spreading your time too thin, but I think that’s what sets me apart is my pure ambition to do cool stuff.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always a class clown, always trying to be the center of attention, while simultaneously being a very quiet and reserved person who found it hard to make friends in the traditional sense. I always had this obsession with being different, with being original. Any time I was shown something conventional, like how to make a Peanut butter and jelly sandwich, I’d try 100 different ways to cut it in half or spread the jelly (while learning 99 ways NOT to make a PBJ),
I started to get into music around middle school age, when I was first really starting to battle with social anxiety. I found that I couldn’t relate to people on a lot of different topics. I wasn’t into sports, I wasn’t into TV, or talking about girls. I just really enjoyed music, and anytime I met someone new, I would always be adamant to learn about what music they listened to just to find common ground. Music was something that I could always turn to when I was feeling sad or alone, while also capable of amplifying the mood when having some fun.
