Conversations with Cory James

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory James.

Cory, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As long as I can remember I’ve always had a skill for building and creating the pieces I see in my mind. With that in mind I decided while in high school as a junior to pursue welding at the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT). I felt that welding could allow me the creative freedoms to build with a plethora of mediums, metal always being one that stood out to me for its dexterity.
Fast forward nine years, and many jobs that allowed me to gain experiences I never imagined. Welding has allowed me to work in all different fields from the off road industry as far as aerospace. All these years just solidified that creating is what I was meant to do. In 2021 I signed on my first industrial shop space located in Payson Arizona, and Cory James Concepts was created easily being the best decision I’ve made.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has never been easy, but bumpy roads always even out. For me, self improvement is constantly on my mind. Thinking of how to do better the next time, or what I can do differently is a driving motivation for me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently I specialize in building custom exhausts for a variety of vehicles. I am known for my craftsmanship and attention the attention to detail that I put into my creations, as you can see on Coryjamesconepts (Instagram). Multiple vehicles I have had the opportunity to weld exhausts on have sold at Barrett Jackson which has been a huge accomplishment for me. I also enjoy the more creative side of welding, where I can build artistic pieces such as metal engravings and copper water fountains.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
As I stated at the beginning, starting my own company was the best decision I made for myself. For anyone considering doing the same but is having a hard time making that leap, I encourage you to take that step.
“When you work for others you are at their mercy. They own your work, they own you. Your creative spirit is squashed. What keeps you in such positions is the fear of having to sink or swim on your own. Instead, you should have a greater fear of what will happen to you if you remain dependent on others for power. Your goal on every maneuver in life must be owned. Work in the corner by yourself. When it’s yours, it’s yours to lose. You’re more motivated, more creative, more alive. ” -Unknown.
