Conversations with Corey Mccallum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Mccallum

Hi Corey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Well it all began as a vision to provide hope for people who were facing difficult challenges such as poverty, homelessness, and a lack of support. As a product of this kind of environment myself, as a child growing up in New York City I experienced despair, drug abuse and a host of other deficiencies that I seemly had little or no control of. I now have the ability and have chosen to assist others through my non-profit organization “Fellowship Phoenix” and provide hope for single mothers, single fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, our youth, the homeless, and anyone in our community experiencing lack. Fellowship Phoenix’s motto is Loving people. Changing lives

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road especially, when you rely solely on donations from the neighboring community members and local businesses to help fund food drives, water drives for the homeless and affordable camps for our youth to be apart of. I am extremely thankful for the small circle of people who donate or either assist with the many outreaches we provide.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been an educator for the past 26 years and Executive Director of Fellowship Phoenix for 5 years. I have also been a high school boys basketball coach for just as long as I have been a high school educator I specialize in providing hope for our youth for example; for the past 9 years I have directed Affordable 4 day basketball camps for the youth in our community. Each camp consist of 70 campers and volunteer coaches to help with this beautiful event. I am also known as a mentor to many, I stress the importance of self worth and discipline. I continue to emphasize value of others. I am also a motivational speaker who on occasion is asked to speak to a student body of at risk teenagers. The first few words I would mention to the crowd of 300-500 students is ” You are At risk, At Risk Of Becoming Great!” In addition, I am a Certified Growth Coach, My clients are 95% adults, however, I use a similar approach by asking what do you value? This helps the client understand that they are the most important person in the room. I am most proud of the opportunity and the willingness to impact others. This is the process in which I will leave a Legacy for others to continue the race. What sets me apart from others is my passion to see others win in life.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as who am I leading? in addition, who is allowing me to lead them. Success is not the quantity of a thing, it’s the quality of it. Lastly, am I leaving a legacy? if so, that’s success to me.
