Today we’d like to introduce you to Chas Wright.
Hi Chas, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started photography because a friend of mine one day saw some pictures I took on my phone and told me I had a really dope eye. I had no idea at the time but now I understand what she meant.
I’ve always watched movies differently from other people. I always noticed the shadows, and light pockets, and colors so; naturally my photos had that same feeling. People always told me (and still do) that my photos looked like movie stills from something you would watch in theaters.
Once people started saying it more and more, the more I knew my end goal would be cinematography. Photography has taken me a long way and to places, I thought I would never visit and in touch with people, I would’ve never thought I would meet. I never got into photography to even do cinematography, let alone make money from it but it has. I’ve had the opportunity to shoot major boxing shows aired on ESPN, DAZN, and major PPV boxing events on Fox. I’ve gotten to meet my favorite fighters and develop relationships with them and shoot live performances from local performers to the likes of DMX.
It’s been an amazing journey and I look forward to what photography and cinematography has in store for me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been rough but with anything in life, there has been some ups and downs. Low paying gigs to no paying gigs. Tough, unsatisfied clients to losing money on jobs from traveling to even being stiffed on payments. I wouldn’t change it for the world tho. It’s part of the journey and growth and experience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known as a “Renaissance man” I do a little bit of everything. I emcee. Produce. An audio engineer A photographer. I do lighting design and film. I’m a colorist for film and cinematography. I used to fight and currently train other fighters now. What I’m most proud of currently is the opportunities I’ve opened for myself with photography. I hope to open those same opportunities and more with cinematography and film.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I wanna say the same exact person I am now only wiser. I was always into sports and music and just being a creative in general. I’m still the same only older send wiser and have some knowledge to pass on to kids like me.
