Conversations with Chanel Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Phillips.

Chanel Phillips

Hi Chanel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Chanel Phillips. I am a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I moved to Arizona in 2007. I have always had a passion for wanting to help others. After finishing high school, I obtained my human services degree. Although I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience, I returned to school and received a degree in education. Human services and education are interconnected. A successful career is when both are used consistently and effectively. From my wealth of knowledge and experience came Phillips Educational Services LLC, an online tutoring service that believes in teaching the whole child. I believe in empowering youth and young adults, focusing on reading, writing, grammar, and life skills, including ESL classes. I currently work with people of all ages and from other parts of the world. I thoroughly enjoy what I am doing. I have recently started consulting. I serve young business owners and future educators. I aim to grow and expand my business into a comprehensive after-school program where I can see clients in person and online. I have a strong desire to develop a treasure closet. This will help the families and youth I serve have a way to eat and gather any needs.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the notable challenges my business is facing is finding clients. Despite my meaningful impact with clients, attracting a steady stream of clients has been difficult. This is mainly because many clients who need help need help to afford to pay for supplemental education. Another challenge has been finding a suitable partner and securing grants to support the mission of providing accessible education. The financial aspect becomes a significant barrier, limiting the scope of the service that can be offered. I acknowledge that the dream goes beyond the business’s success; it extends to the ability to provide a facility that allows my business to flourish without financial constraints. My challenge is alleviating the financial strain on families needing educational support. I remain optimistic about the potential growth and positive change my program can and will bring.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My name is Chanel Phillips (Ms. CeCe). At present, I hold a dual role as a CEO and educator. Within the realm of education, I specialize in ELA for middle school students and young adults. I also work with ESL middle school students and the young adult community. I take pride in working with youth. It feeds my soul and feeds my passion. It is time for me to take things to a higher level. My expertise has gained recognition on various platforms where I specialize in reading, writing, grammar, and ESL. Beyond the classroom, I make an impact by coaching new teachers and providing new staff training. I offer a tailored approach to education by customizing curriculum for home schools, daycares, and new businesses, resulting in a personalized and practical learning experience for all. In both roles, I have a wealth of knowledge and experience that enables me to empower our future and those aspiring to improve themselves. Throughout various professional opportunities, I’ve gained insight into diverse needs, which has shaped my understanding of these roles’ intricacies. Each of these roles has brought me to this point of being featured here, a milestone for which I am deeply grateful. Anticipating my next move, I remain eager to see where this path leads me.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
One of the most important lessons I learned from the COVID-19 crisis is self-care. You are only good to someone if you take care of yourself first. A period of isolation afforded a profound realization: education is indispensable. A critical need emerged, prompting a reevaluation of educational approaches. The pandemic paved the way for new methodical practices to move education forward in a new, innovative way. If a pandemic were ever to arise again, we now have practices in place so schooling will not be compromised.

In closing, COVID-19 impacted us all in many different ways. It changed the scope of how we see life. I learned a lot of lessons. I believe we all did. I plan to put all my practices into play and always remember the what-ifs. Forgetting this piece will say nothing bad will ever happen. My motto going forward is to stay prepared for any crisis.
