Conversations with Carrie Green-Zinn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Green-Zinn.

Carrie Green-Zinn

Hi Carrie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – To start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
The short version is that a few years ago, I felt a lack of creativity in my life and wanted to combine my love of travel, writing, and photography into something fun and rewarding. I discovered Travel Blogging and became obsessed! I officially launched my blog two years ago and have never looked back. I started researching, hiring coaches, and creating. I’m now retired from a long career as a school psychologist and can call myself a full-time blogger!

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The only smooth thing about this path has been that I have not once waived from my desire and passion to be successful at this. Everything else has been, and continues to be, a steep learning curve for me. The struggles are typically around the technology piece. I’m having to build and maintain my website. Because I’m from the baby boomer generation, that makes it very difficult to understand the language involved in computers, websites, and the internet. The additional complications come from starting before I knew what I was doing and now having to go back and fix many things. I’ve had to learn how to become SEO-friendly, ensure I’m giving my readers what they want, and maintain my creativity and integrity. This process involves a significant amount of time and financial commitment. So, the path to success in terms of being proud of what I’m creating while supporting the costs of running a blog is dynamic. The easy part, of course, is traveling, researching, taking photos, and writing. The not-so-easy details are all the logistics. These are the issues I’m still overcoming, which will continue to challenge me for a long time!

Thanks – What else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My travel blog is eclectic because I am. I love all kinds of travel, from foreign to domestic, and to cities, and outdoor adventures. Mostly, I love to meet people from different places and cultures and to feel the world getting smaller. I hope to inspire all my readers, but I particularly want middle-aged, empty nesters to see that we can continue to explore and be very active. We still take epic trips with our kids and are leaning more into couples’ vacations. I’m also a self-proclaimed expert at the girlfriend travel excursions! I have the best travel companions, and we get more and more adventurous as we get older. I’m most proud that I have started this fifth career in my 60s and don’t see myself slowing down. It’s working, I love it, and it’s always becoming more successful.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I don’t view myself as a risk taker and might have risk aversion! That being said, investing all this money and time into creating my blogging business has been the biggest risk I’ve ever taken. I’ve retired from a very stable career to make this work for my husband and myself, so that’s a big risk to me. Anytime you have your heart set on something and you have determination, it will involve a level of risk that you’ll have to take to make it happen.
