Today we’d like to introduce you to Candy Blossom.
Hi Candy Blossom, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It was just myself (Alberto) and my brother Isaac at first. We started playing coffee shops and First Fridays about 4 years ago. After playing with other musicians and groups we stayed as a duo for a bit. We eventually started to play better gigs then the pandemic hit.
At the end of 2020, I had an idea to film a live concert of our music. We wanted to do something a step up from the live streams and the Facebook lives. After weeks of planning, we started putting everything together. We started with a Kickstarter campaign for venue fees and costs relating to the production. After random DMs, references, and rehearsals; we found our lineup of instrumentalists to help us. This included our violinist Nikea Lopez, bass player Jerry Carrillo, our pianist Jacob Aguirre, and drummer Matt Oliverio.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We had plenty of challenges for this project. One of which was maintaining about 20 in the loop, everyone from the band to the audio engineers or crew at the Herberger. Another obstacle we had was that we had to write music for the show. We had about half the setlist ready at that point, our final track Cinderella was fully written about a week before the filming. Everything that went into this was definitely a small crash course in filming and playing a live concert.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
“Candy Blossom – Live at the Herberger” is our latest work. It’s a live concert that was shot at the Herberger Theater in Downtown Phoenix. Our video that is up on YouTube, contains a short foreword from the band followed by the 8-track concert. The concert was also released as an album that’s available on music streaming platforms.
What matters most to you?
Honestly what matters is the music itself. As cliché as it may sound, we just want to create music that we can be proud of. We don’t necessarily create trendy music, so some listeners may find it different from their normal rotations. Our hope is that what we put out will age well and be something that listeners can turn back to.
