Conversations with Candace McClellan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace McClellan.

Hi Candace, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from Chicago, Illinois, but in 2015, I made the move to Arizona, and completed hair school the following year. My passion for doing hair began in childhood. In Chicago, I was inspired by my childhood hairstylist, Jacinta. The love have for hair has only grown over the years. I’ve been fortunate to explore various aspects of the hair industry, and some even refer to me as a celebrity stylist. Today, I’m proud to work independently, bringing my unique style and expertise to each of my clients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been easy—some days are definitely better than others. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced in the hair industry is staying consistent, especially during slower business periods. Additionally, I’ve encountered my fair share of difficult clients along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’d say hair is a form of art. I specialize in braids and have worked with a wide range of clients and hair types. I would say that I am most proud of how far I’ve come. I began doing hair consistently since 2018 and have stayed the course no matter what. I’ve watched myself grow as both an individual and a stylist. I think what sets me apart from others would be my personality. I’m such a easy and understanding stylist, my clients typically love me.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5 to 10 years, I see myself traveling and working with clients all over the world. I aspire to be a traveling stylist, catering to both celebrities and everyday people—although I like to think of my regular clients as celebrities in their own right.
