Conversations with Bryan & Salma Camarillo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan & Salma Camarillo.

Hi Bryan & Salma, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our story really begins with Bryan. He started working with dogs when he was just 13 years old in Mexico, so he brings nearly 20 years of experience to the table. His love for dogs and his passion for his craft pushed him to participate in grooming competitions, which eventually led him to the United States—where our paths crossed.

As for me, I’ve always loved animals, but it wasn’t until I met my husband Bryan that I discovered the world of dog grooming. Seeing his dedication, artistry, and genuine love for every dog he works with inspired me to want to be part of that world too.

Together, we decided to combine Bryan’s talent and experience with our shared love for dogs to create MexaGroom. Our vision has always been to change and elevate the grooming experience for both our furry clients and their owners, creating a place built on trust, care, and passion.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Both Bryan and I have faced challenges individually before MexaGroom even existed. For Bryan, moving to a completely different country with a language he didn’t know, simply with the desire to become better, was a huge personal challenge. For me, stepping into a brand-new industry and learning everything from scratch also pushed me out of my comfort zone.

When we started MexaGroom, we took a big leap of faith and invested everything we had financially into the business. Unfortunately, we were scammed early on, which caused a major financial setback and forced us to rebuild from zero. At the same time, we had to go against the current—changing the way many pet owners thought about grooming. Educating them that grooming isn’t just about looks, but about health, hygiene, and overall well-being of their dogs, has been one of our ongoing missions.

Another challenge has been being a young couple trying to build trust. Sometimes older clients, banks, or potential investors find it harder to take us seriously because of our age. But we’ve learned to let our work, our consistency, and the quality of care we provide speak louder than anything else.

Looking back, we wouldn’t change those struggles because they’ve shaped who we are today. Every obstacle has made us stronger, more resilient, and more motivated to keep pushing forward—and ultimately, they’ve given MexaGroom its heart and purpose.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At MexaGroom, we specialize in one-on-one, customized grooming services for dogs. Our services include full grooming, bath & brush, bath & tidys, de-shedding, and even creative coloring for pets. Every dog we see is treated as an individual, and we tailor our approach to fit their specific needs and comfort.

What truly sets us apart is the personalized care we provide. We want our furry clients and their owners to feel like family when they’re with us. Sometimes that means taking the time to teach owners little tips they can use at home to make grooming easier and less stressful for their dogs. On top of that, Bryan’s experience competing in grooming competitions pushes us to deliver the highest quality work possible, always striving for excellence.

We’re most proud of the community we’ve built—the trust of our clients, the bond we’ve created with their pets, and the fact that we’ve been able to grow despite challenges. For us, it’s not just about grooming dogs, it’s about creating a space where love, trust, and quality come together.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
We definitely wouldn’t be where we are today without the people who have supported us along the way.

For Bryan, two people stand out: Daniel Gaytán, who first introduced him to the world of grooming, and Fernando Chávez, who became his teacher and mentor and played a huge role in shaping his career.

For me personally, my greatest support has been Bryan. He’s the one who encouraged me, believed in me, and inspired me to discover this industry alongside him.

As MexaGroom, we’ve also been very fortunate to have people who have believed in us from the start. Eduardo Bórquez, who is not only our business advisor but also someone who has trusted us since the very beginning, has been an incredible guide. And Madison Clark, the owner of Desert Pups Dog Daycare, has been both a collaborator and a friend—her support as a client and cheerleader has meant the world to us.

And above all, we’re deeply grateful to each and every one of our clients who have trusted us with their dogs. Their support, loyalty, and confidence are the true foundation of MexaGroom.
