Conversations with Brittney Cook

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Cook.

Hi Brittney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am an Arizona native who grew up living across the valley. Once I graduated, I spent two years going to school in Flagstaff, where I learned that the snow was not for me. I moved back down to the valley and attended Arizona State University where I received a degree in Forensic Science. I was unsure what I wanted to do with my degree and truth be told I did not feel passionate about pursuing a career in that field. I worked for a couple criminal defense law firms after moving home, where I really learned a lot about being an advocate for others. I was able to put my analytical and detail orientated skills to use in order to solve complex problems.

Feeling the pressure of society and my student loan debt, I felt I needed to venture into a role that backed up that expensive degree. As well as find somewhere I could begin a lifelong career and move up the chain. I began working for a local non-profit, where I put my degree to use. Six years later, I still continue to put in time and support when I can. Through my time with this nonprofit, I was able to discover my strengths and hone in on what really lights my fire. I wanted to help the community and make an impact in someone’s life.

I purchased my first home when I was 25 years old. For the first time, I felt security and stability. I new I loved that feeling and needed to be the one who made these feelings possible for others. I got my real estate license and took a solid year to learn the field before venturing in. I saved up the funds to build my knowledge and business before cutting lies with corporate life. Speed up to today, I am a full-time Realtor® with HomeSmart Elite Group and a team member of the Desert Dreamers Real Estate Team. I have found my passion, I make a difference, and I love what I am doing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many challenges and obstacles I have faced getting into the real estate industry. Where do I even start? Coming from corporate America where you have a trainer who mentors you on your job responsibilities, I put myself into this industry where you train yourself. Real estate school only prepares you for the basics of what it takes to manage a transaction, yet alone draft a purchase contract. With my background in law, I know how serious contracts are and I was terrified to screw up. I knew I had to learn the ropes and find someone to mentor me along the way. It took time to find someone who matched my dedication and desires to be strong in contract writing. Luckily, I found an incredible mentor who has helped shape me into the well-rounded agent I am today.

Another huge challenge for me was learning to juggle it all. A real estate professional has to build their business just like any other business. A ton of effort and dedication is needed. It is on you if your business flatlines. Unless you hire out, you are in charge of your marketing, scheduling, representation, showings, problem solving, contract management, business finances, and most important you are your client’s support system to help them achieve their goals. It took me time to get the hang of all the things you have to juggle.

If I have learned anything from the obstacles I have overcome; is to never shy away from asking for help and to give yourself grace because everything takes time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a forever student; who desires growth within the real estate industry and my personal development. I am a strong advocate for my clients, who is honest and transparent. I am tenacious but tactical. I am attentive and systematic. I am a person who strives to create relationships that extend beyond a transaction. I am a full-time Realtor®.

I specialize in the purchase of residential real estate within Maricopa County. I have experience in both buying and selling homes around the Valley; from condos to homes with a couple acres. With my analytics and law background, I believe this has a huge impact in my success. I understand and follow the Maricopa County real estate data in order to educate my clients on the market. Being able to follow the trends and patterns in the real estate market, I’m able to help my clients conquer their buying or selling goals. I believe that purchasing a home is filled with both triumph and fear; as a real estate professional, it is your duty you guide your clients through the downfalls and successes. In order to do that, you need to know the market and how to navigate tough situations.

I have the drive to give back to my community to make it a better place. I am proud to say I am friends with my neighbors. I am a member of multiple committees within the Maricopa County real estate industry and attend city forums on a regular basis. I strive to host quarterly events like community clean-ups and dog adoptions. I am devoted to the community and each of my clients. It is important to me to personalize the experience to match my clients’ exceptions while creating a professional relationship that feels genuine.

I am committed to this career and dedicated to making a difference. It has allowed me to feel passionate and show off the skills I think I am good at. I am proud of what I do and find it to be a noble profession that is to be taken seriously.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The home buying experience can be overwhelming for many people. For most, it is the most expensive and important transaction of their lives. It is important to me that I am a strong advocate for my clients and educate them during the process. I strive to ensure my clients feel supported and acknowledged. I’m determined each transaction, that my clients are able to reflect back on their buying or selling experience as a good one.
