Conversations with Becca Kopp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Kopp.

Hi Becca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Who knew my lifelong love for plants would get me here today? Growing up you could always find me in the backyard with my grandma watching, helping, and learning how to tend a garden and care for her beloved succulents. She taught me everything I know today about plants, I will never forget her.

During the pandemic, I was out of work for 16 long months. The music and entertainment industry was hit hard, and I was devastated. So in my boredom, I fashioned a public Facebook group out of my love for succulents & cacti, as I was tired of being in other online plant groups that were not helpful and the members were often mean to everyone new or learning.

Not at all did I expect my group Succulents & Propagation to now be a huge part of the online community, consisting of hundreds of thousands of members from all over the world. It’s quite amazing to see everyone come together over the love of plants! Most share photos from their collections and others seek public assistance with their plant issues.

We strive to always be kind and extremely helpful to everyone, all are welcome!!

During this last year, interacting with everyone has inspired me to create a website and blog to help assist beginners further in their journeys of learning how to care for their succulents & cacti.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth venture for me. Like many online businesses, you have to deal with trolls, keyboard warriors, and false accusations. We could talk all day about some things that have happened over my journey but let’s just chalk it up to a bunch of unnecessary drama.

It’s an everyday battle but I get through it with positivity and conflict resolution. If someone still wants to fight for no reason, there is always the handy dandy BLOCK option, my favorite.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m in the nightclub & music festival industry specializing in VIP and Artist Relations, along with being a promotional model for over 12 years now.

However after the pandemic things have shifted and my focus has been on this new online blog, S&P branded shop, and soon a marketplace by allowing others to promote their small/local plant businesses on my platform.

I believe my bubbly personality and people skills have helped me grow Succulents & Propagation to be as large as it is today, keeping things kind, and always helpful.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Live every day like it’s your last and do the things you have always wanted to do!
