Conversations with Barbara Bliss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Bliss.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started photography about nine years ago. I was living in California and joined a group of like-minded photographers that travel and take pictures and teach and learn from each other. I moved to Arizona a year ago and I am having an amazing time finding the beauty in the desert.

My passion for photography started right away when I went on my first photography trip, I bought a camera the night before the trip not knowing what I was doing at all but loved it from day one. People say I light up behind the camera, it just makes me happy when I get to capture moments and the beauty in the world. My favorite type of photography is landscape but I love to explore all areas of photography. Photography is always changing so it is exciting to constantly learn new things.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say it has been a smooth road for me because I’m always open to new areas in photography. The possibilities are endless. I love to always be learning and growing. Light photography, star trails, crystal ball photography, water drop photography, spiral photography, creating in photoshop, baby photos, family photos, and portraits, there is so much out there and so much to do and so much to learn and so much to see.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer. I specialize in landscape photography. I have been fortunate enough to have been published, to show my work in fairs and galleries, and to be interviewed like this. One of my proudest moments was when I showed my dad one of the first pictures I had taken and he thought it was a painting. I believe I see things differently than others do when I’m taking pictures. It’s amazing to me how a group of people can be in one place and we all see things so differently.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I have been in Arizona for a year now and I am loving taking pictures of the amazing sunsets, the wild horses or just going down by the lakes near my house and taking pictures of the desert landscape. There are so many new places to explore around here.
