Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Egner.
Hi Amy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been a visual artist from my early childhood and have experimented in many forms of fine art and dance. In my youth, painting gave me an outlet for communication when I was unable to put my feelings into words and steady exposure to art elevated my interest and passion for creative expression. I hold a bachelor’s degree in art and art history from the University of Buffalo, New York and a master’s degree in communications design from Pratt Institute.
I’ve also been working within the digital creative and tech industries for over two decades, skillfully integrating my inherent creativity into my professional journey with a passion for delivering delightful user experiences. Throughout this time, my dedication to art has remained a constant, nurtured through personal exploration, formal training, and community involvement.
Living among the immense beauty of the Southwest landscape has inspired a steady stream of painting activity. I’m inspired by nature’s magnificence and my inner vision, I create art with bold strokes and unrestrained color. My strongest work captures the intense yet fleeting moments, from the stunning beauty of a sunrise to my deepest sorrows. Oil paint, paper cutout and montage are my primary mediums.
Art in community is also something that I value. Arizona offers so many cultural opportunities –I volunteer with Free Arts of Arizona, Taliesin West, am a member of Pratt’s alumni advisory board and the Scottsdale Artists’ League. I’m looking forward to continued inspiration from my local environment and artistic growth.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think the road for anything you’re personally passionate about is an easy one, as there’s always more to learn, create, do, etc. I’ve been sidetracked or discouraged many times when other aspects of life got in the way or my artistic pursuits felt unimportant. But once I got back to my easel or sketchpad and reignite that connection, I get into a flow and the work manifests easily. And it reiterates that for me the work is important and essential.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In my corporate career, I’m passionate about the sweet spot where content and technology meet to create truly happy users. Over the past two decades, I’ve gathered comprehensive experience across the digital creative and marketing landscape, working in everything from fintech to online grocery to nonprofits. I’ve held roles as a designer, program manager and content director.
Give me something vague, and I’ll make it clear. Show me inconsistencies, and I’ll bring structure. My aim is always to create customer-first solutions that enhance product engagement and drive conversions.
I thrive on collaboration, working closely with marketing, product, design, and technology partners. Equipped with the latest design, GenAI, and CMS tools, I genuinely enjoy developing everything from overarching content strategies to nitty-gritty copy specs.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Movement is also essential to my creativity and well-being. I’m also trained as a dancer and have studied and performed classical ballet, jazz, modern and more. I’ve been playing tennis most of my life and although I’m not advanced, I’m enjoying learning more about the game and strategy.
