One subject captivated her like no other—science- throughout her academic journey. From the intricate dance of molecules to the marvels of chemical reactions, she drew deeper into chemistry. Fuelled by her passion, she pursued higher education at Michigan State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.

Armed with her degree and an unyielding love for science, she embarked on a remarkable journey. Driven to share her passion with others, she envisioned a brand that would offer beauty products and serve as a platform for STEM education. Thus, her dream took shape when she founded her own beauty company.

Her brand was more than just cosmetics; it was a gateway to the world of science. Each handcrafted product was meticulously formulated, focusing on educating students and customers about the science behind the ingredients. Vibrant lipsticks, luscious lip glosses, an array of lashes, flawless foundations, and nourishing skincare – each item was a testament to her dedication to beauty and STEM education.

As her brand flourished, she dedicated herself to empowering the following scientists. Through workshops, mentorship programs, and partnerships with schools, she inspired countless young minds to explore the wonders of science. Her journey from Chicago to Detroit, public school to university, had come full circle as she used her success to uplift her community and pave the way for future innovators. And so, the beauty chemist from Chicago, raised in Detroit, now in Phoenix, continues to leave her mark on the world, one lipstick tube at a time. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As she journeyed further along the path of entrepreneurship, the beauty chemist encountered many challenges that tested her resilience and determination. The decision to rebrand her company brought a host of logistical hurdles, from redesigning packaging to realigning marketing strategies. Yet, she approached each obstacle with a tenacity born of her upbringing, refusing to be deterred by the complexities of change.

However, her greatest trial came in the form of a trademark dispute with a more prominent brand, whose legal team sought to challenge her right to her company name. Despite the daunting prospect of facing off against a corporate giant, she stood her ground, armed with an unwavering belief in her vision and the support of a dedicated legal team. She emerged victorious through tireless negotiation and steadfast determination, securing her brand’s identity and protecting her hard-earned reputation.

Yet, the challenges continued to mount even as she celebrated this hard-won victory. Earning money and gaining access to capital proved an uphill battle, as traditional funding avenues often seemed closed off to a woman of color in a male-dominated industry. However, luck is the intersection of preparation meeting opportunity, and my success is a testament to the countless hours of hard work, dedication, and expertise I’ve invested in my craft over the years.

While I attribute much of my success to my efforts and determination, I also recognize the blessings bestowed upon me. Whether it’s the serendipitous encounters that led to key partnerships, the unexpected opportunities that propelled my business forward, or the unwavering support of loyal customers and mentors, I’ve been fortunate to experience moments of synchronicity and alignment that have driven me toward greater heights.
