Conversations with Ali Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Rodriguez.

Ali Rodriguez

Hi Ali, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
All my life until the third year of medical school, I was 100% certain that I would go into General Surgery. My father is a surgeon, so it’s in my blood. But all that changed once I went into my clinical rotations and delivered my first baby. That’s when I knew it was what I want to be doing for the rest of my life. Bringing new life into the world is the most rewarding thing there is – there’s truly no comparable feeling! What I love about Obstetrics and Gynecology is being able to stand by women’s sides throughout some of the happiest and toughest times in life. With each of my patients, I want to build a bond with them, listen to their stories, provide reassurance, and meet their individual needs. A big goal of mine is to advocate for women everywhere through education and empowerment and help them feel confident in their bodies.

I started posting about women’s health topics on Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube (@alirodmd) to reach even more women with empowering content. It’s incredible to have this space to connect with people and answer their questions about the female body, pregnancy, STDs, and everything else!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Social media can make it seem like you have it all together, but remember that’s only the highlight reel. It’s definitely been challenging finding the balance between working full time as an OBGYN and also doing social media full time. And recently, I just became a mother–so to say that I’m busy is an understatement. But luckily, with the help of my family and sticking to a realistic (and flexible) schedule, it’s all been possible. Having the support of my husband, my sisters, and my parents has made this career possible, and I’m forever grateful for their help.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a full-time OBGYN working in Phoenix, AZ. I also create content on social media about women’s health, women empowerment, education on pregnancy, periods, STDs, and everything in between. While also sharing information about my life, my family and my love for beauty and fashion. I am from Puerto Rico, meaning I am fluent in Spanish. I’m eager to empower women, giving them confidence to be unapologetic about who they are.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t think I would necessarily call it luck, but more so, never giving up. I knew the importance of sharing this information on social media because I saw the need in my community. I saw the knowledge gaps and how stigmatized women’s health is in our society. So, I put myself out there so that people can have access to the information in a fun and informative way. No stigma, no judgements.
