Conversations with Walker Ramsey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Walker Ramsey.

Hi Walker, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started doing some digital marketing work for my mom’s Naturopathic Practice called Revitalize Functional Medicine back in the fall of 2019, which is still my main source of income as the Director of Marketing. After we started branching out with ideas on how to grow the business, I came up with the idea of starting a podcast. Originally, we got hooked up with Dave Pratt’s “Star Worldwide Networks” and began our podcasting journey there. While we worked with them, their producers walked me through the entire process of starting a podcast so I went home, bought the necessary equipment to start a podcast and got to work. This is when I started taking on some of my own clients for their podcasting needs — helping produce their content for them as freelance gigs. I even hosted and produced a podcast of my own called The Advantage In Media Podcast which can still be found on all the major podcast streaming platforms and YouTube. That podcast came to an end in late Nov, early Dec and I’m still doing some freelance work for a couple clients at the moment. I am also looking to start another podcast/show of some sort on YouTube as my podcast was received really well by my peers and acquaintances. Going into sports journalism is what I’ve had my eyes set on for quite a while now so that will likely be my next career decision.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My first challenge was figuring what I wanted to do for a career after playing Division 1 baseball at Utah Valley University. Baseball had been my entire life up to that point and I didn’t have a fallback plan. I wanted to play professionally. Additionally, It has not been a smooth road in many regards. At first, there were a lot of internal issues we had to deal with at Revitalize Functional Medicine but now we are on the right track. Also ran into a lot of roadblocks during my experience of my freelance work, having to do a lot of self-teaching and modifying my craft.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most proud of the work that I’ve displayed with my Advantage In Media freelance business. I gave a lot of these details in the original question so I’ll skip over them from brevity’s sake. I’m most known for taking the leap and starting a podcast and a business in the midst of everyone and their mothers’ starting a podcast. My platform was very unique and a lot of topics of conversation were touched on which I am also proud of.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the weather. I love how Scottsdale/Phoenix/Mesa/Tempe are so easily accessible via freeways. I love the growing modern culture. I love that I can be relatively close to my family. And of course I love the outdoors and being able to play golf year-round.
