Conversations with Summer Monahan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Monahan.

Hi Summer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I originally went to Penrose Academy for Aesthetics in Scottsdale. After graduating school I worked at a Medspa and started marketing myself on social media and building up my clientele. About a year and a half in I decided to branch off and start my own business and that’s when the idea of Glow Up Aesthetics became a reality. Two years later, we have three additional girls added to our team + a second suite.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the biggest obstacle for me was patience. It took a year of consistently marketing myself on social media & being creative with ideas & posts. After building a solid clientele & taking the step to start Glow Up, the biggest challenge became learning how to run a successful aesthetics business without anyone walking me through the process. I’m still constantly learning but I’ve really learned the value of having patience and waiting for the seeds you’ve planted to sprout.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Glow Up Aesthetics we offer & strongly believe in clinical treatments vs. spa treatments and medical grade products vs. “over the counter products”. We specialize in acne & anti-aging; however we treat all skin types & conditions. We carry three different medical grade skin care lines to customize each client’s skin care regimen specifically to their skin type and needs/goals. We are known for our glowing transformations “glow ups” & being able to really tailor each client experience to fit their desired results. In our eyes not every product or treatment works for everyone so we really strive to be able to offer customizable treatments and a variety of different products to fit all lifestyles & treat anyone who walks through our doors.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I strongly believe that you have to believe in yourself and be able to take risks in order to be successful. You’ll never know unless you try. Before taking the leap to start Glow Up Aesthetics I remember having this dream and vision of what I wanted Glow Up to be and feeling frustrated when others couldn’t see my vision. Instead of letting self-doubt & the doubt of others hold me back, I decided to just go for it. I look back now and my biggest accomplishment is taking the risk of trading in my comfortable 9-5 job to become an entrepreneur knowing i didn’t have it all figured out but that I would learn along the way.
