Today we’d like to introduce you to James Patterson
Hi James, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Tempe Arizona. I grew up with a passion for baseball following in my dad’s footsteps as he played professional baseball for a lot of his life. I attended college at ASU where I also played baseball for the Sun Devils. I was drafted my Junior year out of ASU in 2010 by the Tampa Bay Rays and went on to play professionally for nine seasons. in 2017 I went back to ASU to finish my degree before I ultimately decided to retire from baseball in 2018. A month before I retired, I met my now wife Robyn so a lot of changes were happening at once but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. As our relationship was growing, I made the decision to get my real estate license. I’m now a little over two years into my real estate career and have already helped 20 families find a home or sell their current home. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my new career and can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There has definitely been struggles, learning curves, or just funny things that have happened but they’ve all made me better having gone through it. It’s well known that one of the hardest parts in real estate is getting started and I was no different. I knew I needed to learn, so I joined a team with a highly regarded broker who could mentor me from the beginning. Even with great coaching, things don’t happen overnight. It’s the work that you put in everyday that eventually leads to your first sale. Learning to market myself and the everyday focus on staying relevant to my network has been my biggest challenges but also the biggest reasons for my success.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Real Estate Sales. – I specialize in first time home buyers, out of state buyers, sellers, and investors. – I would say my communication. I learned that to make a team be their best we all have to be on the same page and have the same goals. I’m most proud of helping family and friends get into their dream home and also the new friends I’ve made along the way. It’s not a numbers game for me, I don’t want anyone to buy a house they’re not in love with. I make sure to be as involved as possible throughout the entire transaction as if it was my own home that I was selling or purchasing. I also do my best to always support friends, family, and new clients with their businesses. They’re the first people I contact If I’m in need of a contractor, a roofing company, or anything. There’s nothing better than supporting the ones I’m closest to whenever I can.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
To those just starting out, understand that you are starting your own business. You don’t have a boss telling you what to do or how to do it, you’re on your own, have a game plan from the start. I wish I knew how to market myself better from the beginning and what apps/websites/services I could be using to make myself standout from the crowd.
