Conversations with the Inspiring Steph Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steph Thompson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my start later than most in the hair industry. I started beauty school at the tender age of 27. Wife and mom, I wanted to add more to my plate. But you know what they say, better late than never! Let me tell you, it was not easy but I was determined. It also helped that I have a great support system.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not a smooth road (and still isn’t) but I am a firm believer that hard work and perseverance will be paid off! It definitely takes a few years to take off, and there will be times when you want to give up. DONT! You have to believe in yourself before other people start believing in you. In today’s modern times, take 100% advantage of social media! Especially Instagram! If you set up your account as a business, it gives you statistics and a total break down of your page and when is the best time for posting. All for free!!!

What should we know about Steph Does Hair? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’d say I specialize in blonding. And it happened by accident. I never sat out to conquer one thing or the other. I just kept getting blondes in my chair. So, I took extra classes and just honed in on my skills.

I’m most proud of the connection I can make with clients. I like to think of myself as a people person. I make an effort to really get to know my clients, pay attention to the details. They absolutely love when they come back and I ask how a trip was, or how their kids are doing!
