Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Gibbs.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sophia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a Tucson native and am part of the first generation of college graduates of my family. After graduating from the University of Arizona and marrying my handsome husband, we welcomed our daughter into the world later the following year. The transition into motherhood, physically and mentally knocked me over, as prepared as I was. I had initially created my blog, Milk and Moscato, as an outlet and expression of myself to share the real and raw details of how my life is changed in this incredible way. Now, having such an immense amount of community and support it’s evolving into a platform of empowerment and creativity not only for myself but for others that may relate.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s definitely been an exciting journey watching this expand into something meaningful. There are times I’ve been hesitant to share with people that I’m a blogger, but then again, why should I minimize my pride for something just because someone may not completely agree or understand my passion for it? For future female bloggers, know the worth of your words and portray what it is that you stand for and value. I’m fairly laid back and enjoy sarcasm and jokes within life and on my blog, but I also pride myself on my honesty, positivity and integrity. It takes time, willingness to work and helpful criticism to grow with whatever it is you’re passionate about. Hold yourself accountable and always remain humble within your work efforts because there’s not room for entitlement.
One of my favorite quotes: “Some women fear the fire, some women simply become it” – R.H. Sin
What should we know about Milk and Moscato? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I manage the page and social media for Milk and Moscato, my brand which I hold dear to my heart. The blog’s main categories are in regards to lifestyle and motherhood. With a background in retail and my bachelors having an emphasis on Fashion Merchandising, I enjoy adding my own flare of products and styles that work for me and our family. I’ve been told that people enjoy my writing, so that always makes me smile. It’s pretty awesome I’m able to create content that others genuinely get excited to see and can relate to.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
A barrier that needs to shift and disappear to strengthen the female leadership in this industry is the one where women continuously badger other women, simply because they can. I’d much rather empower and support a badass woman, rather than push her down.
