Conversations with the Inspiring Selma Nguyen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Selma Nguyen.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It started in high school, when I was first introduced to DIYs. I was suffering from teenage acne and couldn’t afford a skincare regimen. I was heavy into YouTube at the time and found natural remedies for skincare. I tried them on myself and didn’t think much of it. It wasn’t until 2017 when I decided to show others how to do it too, and decided to sell it myself!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all! From faulty products, to self-doubt, to negative reviews, it’s been tough. So tough that I have wanted to quit. I’ve taken many breaks but this is just something that chose me. Skincare is something that I struggled with and was able to gain confidence with and knowing I can provide that same confidence for someone else is what keeps me going. My advice would be to find a good WHY. A strong why will always motivate you no matter how tough things may get.

what should we know about Take Care: A Beauty co.? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a beauty company. I specialize in all thing’s beauty but for now. I’m most known for my all-natural trios. These include a face wash, a toner and a serum. I have three different trios and each one is tailored to a specific skin type. For example, if you have oily skin, I would recommend the black charcoal, if you have dry skin, I would recommend the citrus, etc. Although we focus mainly on face and skin, I love all beauty products and plan to expand my line. I’m most proud of my customers. I’m proud that they choose to use Take Care products every day as a daily routine. I’m proud that they consistently use the products to get desired results. I suppose I’m just proud that they choose to take care of themselves.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
The most important thing I learned during this journey is that you can learn anything by just asking questions! Being prideful and doing it all “yourself” is not all that it’s cracked up to be. You don’t have anyone to take your photos? That’s fine, I’m sure you can ask someone to take an hour or so out of their day to teach you a few pointers. Want to learn how to create ads on your Instagram that look good? Ask someone who’s Instagram account you like! Plus, not only will it help you get one step closer to your goal, you’ll also get a new friend or acquaintance. I wish I would have known this earlier on but hey, better late than never.
