Today we’d like to introduce you to Rozz Sandoval.
Rozz, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ever since I can remember, art has always been a part of who I am… as a little girl, I would cut my dolls hair off or paint it with permanent marker (sorry sister). My mom always had us in the salon getting our hair cut or colored, updo’s for quinceañera’s, or getting waxed or our nails done. You name it, we were getting it done at the salon! In high school, my sister and I were the girls experimenting with our friends! (Good results came out of it I swear!) My sister became a stylist first so I have to give her a lot of credit for a lot of the techniques and tricks I know. So, it’s safe to say my love for hair has been in me since a little girl. But then, I became a momma and these little creatures look up to my husband and I. We find it very important to lead by example and my children see how much our careers mean to us, that there is love behind it. I’m so in love with what I do, with what I can do. Having someone in my chair doesn’t just limit to hair. Most of my clients I’ve known for years now, so I know everything about their personal to professional lives just as much as they know my story. I take such pride in them trusting me with their but more their stories and why they want their done. I cherish my clients so much, they are my walking advertisement. Without their trust in me, I am not Hair by Rozz! Every day, I thrive to be better than yesterday. The beauty industry is a revolving door for new techniques and education and I always try to stay on top of my game for my clients. I know it’s constantly said but it’s true: do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have worked in quite a bit of salon now… it’s taken me some time to plant myself. I’ll never stop doing hair but I couldn’t seem to find my place in certain salons. I don’t settle but I also need patience. My advice for a stylist who loves their craft but doesn’t fit in with your salon or team. Don’t. Shine. Be you. Be strong. Learn. And take care of your clients because after some moving around from salon to salon, I’ve fallen in love with the girls I work with and for the salon, I am in.
What should we know about Beauty Lounge? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I dabble in everything. I love color, extensions, and cutting. I don’t want to limit myself. But over time, it seems like color corrections are what I go in on! I spend hours with my clients. I won’t let them leave until we’re both happy with it. I think what sets me apart from many is I spend every minute with my client from beginning to finish.
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
There are so many great artists out there! I mean my only advice is to just ask all the questions you have from some you shadow or follow on social media. Don’t leave until you know you asked all you wanted or needed.
