Conversations with the Inspiring Rosie Crocker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosie Crocker.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rosie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to Tucson eleven years ago. I have always had a passion for plants and the desert. I noticed that there were so many powerful native desert plants that were hardly being used in the herbal and beauty world. I also noticed that there were not that many herbal products out there that were useful in day to day life. There are so many organic food products but not many natural hair care or skin care products. I started initially making formulas and potions just to use for myself and then my friends started using them.

They quickly gained popularity for their uniqueness and quality – thus, Sonoran Rosie is alive and growing!
I make my herbal hair and skin care products out of mostly wildcrafted desert plants. I wanted to challenge the beauty world norm by making all of my products unisex and inclusive. I am also passionate about the environment, so I wanted to create a sustainable small business by using local, organic, wildcrafted, ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients, 100% recycled paper labels and packing materials, using glass containers ( using as little plastic as possible) and supporting other women owned small businesses. I even ask my customers to return their glass bottles to me for a $1 off so that I can sanitize and reuse them. I also donate regularly portions of my profits to local plant and animal organizations such as Tucson Wildlife Center.
I believe in the power of positivity so I make everything by hand in small batches with precision, love, and care. My beauty products are always all natural – never any harsh chemicals. It has been so exciting following my dreams and being able to show the world my unique perspective and let everyone experience the desert through hair and skin care. I’m excited to continue growing and configuring new ideas and sharing with more people!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My life journey has not been easy but starting this business has been very easy and natural. Almost as if everything In my life had led me up to this point. I feel the universe is blessing me for being a conscious, aware human. When you are on the path you are supposed to be on everything aligns to help you. It feels like In the last 8 months my life has changed completely and I am so grateful. The only struggle I have had is time management – trying to balance my small business, my part-time job, my home life, my garden and pets, and my friends and family. I would tell other young women to just try to figure out who they are, understand how their choices affect everything around them, realize what you want and think of it as if it has already happened. Manifestation is our one true power as humans. If you are wanting to start a small business – understand what you are passionate about and what you are talented at and use those things to come up with a unique idea that other people haven’t thought of. It’s easy to take ideas from other people but it takes an effort to Make everything your own. Loving and taking care of yourself is a big deal too. You can’t do anything without self-care first.

What should we know about Sonoran Rosie? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I think I answered most of these questions a couple questions back in my really long response.🙃

I am very proud of creating unique ideas and products that are meant to replace other harmful products with all natural, plant-based products. Can you use my previous response to answer these questions?

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Yes very much so. I did not have an easy childhood. I grew up poor in a very large family. I was the eldest child and my parents were very young. My whole family has been plagued with depression and victim mentality. I believe moving away from my family when I was 18 to Tucson from Phoenix was the best decision I made as a young person. Because it gave me time alone and to find my own way outside of feeling sorry for myself and my past. It has made me appreciate my life and the love I have now. Struggling as a young person also helped me gain unique perspectives that I may not have had otherwise. It definitely gave me independence and helped me become multi-talented which is crucial when starting a small business. You have to wear many different hats as a young woman entrepreneur.
