Conversations with the Inspiring Nancy Cox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Cox.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Fashion has always been a huge part of my life as long as I can remember! I love seeing and wearing all the new trends each season. But after having kids, I sort of lost myself because it was a real challenge to lose the weight I had gained during both pregnancies. I found myself trying to hide in the dark and ill-fitting clothes until a friend introduced me to a direct sales clothing company that had colorful prints & comfortable clothes. I had my own little shop for a few years but felt the desire to really create my own online boutique from the ground up – from concept to curating the styles in the shop… that’s where Rhys & Avery Boutique was born (named after my two cute kiddos – their middle names). It’s important to me that the boutique is inclusive offering fun, on-trend, and easy to wear fashion for women of all shapes and sizes! We offer women’s fashion in sizes S-3XL. I want to help style women in clothes that will make them feel confident in their own skin – unleash their inner fashionista!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being an entrepreneur has been the most challenging and rewarding job I have ever had. Owning my own boutique has been amazing because I get to make all the decisions and really see the fruits of my labor bloom. With that said, starting a small business is not for the faint of heart! Building something from the ground up is the ultimate challenge and I am still just at the very beginning of the journey. With a little business background, I have spent many hours just learning whatever I can that will help to grow and build the business. And I still have so much to learn, which is really exciting! The advice I would give to someone starting out, don’t be scared to ask questions or reach out to others for help. If you know there’s a skill set you need to build or strengthen, think about your network of friends and family or even your local community who can help you with their expertise.

What should we know about Rhys & Avery Boutique? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the owner of Rhys & Avery boutique an online women’s clothing boutique. I am known for my styling skills & helping women find the perfect outfit that works for their body type. I am most proud of Rhys & Avery for being an inclusive brand offering on-trend fashion for women sizes ranging S-3XL. Although the boutique is primarily online, we do have local monthly sip & shops where women can come shopping with their friends and play dress up! We also offer free personal styling sessions where I work one on one with clients to find outfits that fit their body type & lifestyle. Those can be scheduled by appointment by contacting us via email. It’s also important to me to offer styles during a season that can easily be mixed and matched together that allow for multiple outfit options within the collection, making it easy for the busy woman. The entire collection is easy to wear meaning it can be worn casual or dressed up depending on how you accessorize and they are easy to care for and above all very comfortable!

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
My advice in finding a mentor is to think about those who are close to you first and reach out to them, family and friends. It’s a good way to start networking too because if they don’t feel they can do it they probably know someone they can refer you to that can. As a small business owner, I have also reached out to other entrepreneurs and asked them questions. It really is about community and not competition, so it’s been really nice to connect with like-minded people going through the same daily grind like me to share ideas.
