Today we’d like to introduce you to Ms. CrystalAnne.
Ms. CrystleAnne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I truly love to sing. It has been my passion since a little girl. I started singing in church and choirs all over the city once my daddy realized how good I was, lol! Now, I think he always knew I had it. It was more like once I was old enough for him to realize how much I truly loved it. My daddy loved to sing too and was good at it but I was so smart and always had so many ideas to be a business owner and a landlord wanting to buy houses at eight years old, etc. Lol, and you know how some people get older and grow out of things. Not Me! I’ve always loved music and always will. And I even became a business owner and a landlord like I said I would as well. My daddy raises me as a single parent played a big role in my success today as well as my music career as a kid and still remains a huge factor even with him not being here today. My daddy was the best friend, And I miss him so much. Every time I sing, I blank out like I’m singing to him. I would spend hours in my room singing and dancing in the mirror until he would burst in like “CrystalAnne!! dang is you gone ever come out how you know I don’t wanna hear you sing and stuff” I’d be like daddy please get out my room. Then, eventually, I’d end up in the living room forced to sing something he wanted me to sing, and I would have to sing it over and over until I got it right too lmao I used to be so mad. I would trade anything to have those moments again. And yes, CrystalAnne is my real name first and middle put together. Only a few others actually called me CrystalAnne but that’s the only thing my daddy called me. Unless he was mad and added my last name with it lmao. My mom’s side of the family used to argue that my middle name had no E at the end.
By my mother passing away when I was so young, I couldn’t ask her but I asked my daddy and he said there should be an E at the end. The craziest thing is I just looked at my SSC not too long ago and there is no E at the end. I was a little sad but it doesn’t matter because in music I’ll be remembered how my daddy wanted me to. And that’s as Ms. CrystalAnne with an E at the end and don’t forget the Ms. because I’m a boss and like to be addressed like one, lol (seriously the ms is for so many reasons). In the meantime, I still haven’t had a chance to check my birth certificate to see about my middle name but like I said it really doesn’t even matter at this point. If my daddy was here today he would have been my manager and I would have been made it like five years ago, lol, but I’m not tripping, I’m confident that my time is coming. I have two beautiful girls that needed my attention first but they are getting older and giving all the more reason to keep going!!! 😊😘 p.s. writing all this definitely made me cry, lol!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been smooth. I tend to make things look easy because I’m always laughing and smiling but that is the key. Stay positive! I have obstacles that come my way every single day but unless you’re actually in my household you would never know especially when I’m on stage! One of the obstacles I encountered that I’m sure every artist may or may not experience is studio time in general. As I stated, I’ve been singing all my as my daddy put me in my first choir at three and if he knew of a studio to take me too back then I’m sure he would have. Studios weren’t on every other corner like they are now and even still it’s hard to find a good engineer that you vibe with and who makes your music sound how you want it too as well as how it should. I try to produce a lot of my tracks before I get to the studio but I still love a good producer who is going to give me a few good tips like oh you should leave that last line out or it sounds better if that part echos or whatever. It’s all about the vibe for real. You can make a hit that never makes it because it wasn’t produced correctly. Only advise I have for that is take time out to find good producers before you get started. It’s not always about how good the equipment is either but if you have a good producer they’ll produce hits wherever… in your basement if you get the equipment yourself, lol, but yeah find a good producer and try to get more than one. In the meantime, I only record one song when dealing with new producers and it’s normally one of my least favorites. Just until I see how good they are and if they can turn a track from my least favorite to just my favorite.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a star and that is what I do. Lol. I focus on being great every day! No, seriously I am a mother a business owner and a landlord who has a passion for singing. I like to help others in my spare time which is why I became a landlord. I was homeless after my dad died and I truly understand the struggle. Although I’m not giving houses away for free I still have the authority to give someone a free month because they are struggling or let someone spend a week or two in one of my houses until we find tenants or whatever. I just like being able to offer that. My business revolves around actually fixing and working on Homes in which I am able to hire people and offer jobs to whomever I want. I like to focus on felons because they don’t have as many opportunities as everyone else and granted it was her fault for getting locked up but then again how do we know. We see the law so wrong things every day and I am not here to judge. I just want to be able to offer opportunities. I love seeing people Happy because of something I did. It makes me feel so warm inside. I added the ms. To my name because I am known for so much that you mines well treat me like your mother’s mother. Lol, that’s right treat me like grandma! Grandma gets all the respect and everyone comes to her for advice because she knows the most as she should since she’s been around the longest. I haven’t been around the longest but this is still me 😁. I’m different because I am the youngest elder you’ll ever meet! Lol!
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My grandmother on both my mom and dads side of the family. My big sister also. My Grandma on my mom’s side I looked at as so strong and independent. She always made me feel like the sky is the limit. Now, granted she was someone who told me not to just focus on music because it’s not a guarantee but I still love her and appreciate her because she helped give me the ambition to want to do more than just music and really be somebody out here. My Grandma on my dad’s side was really sweet and spoiled, lol. She taught me how to be a lady, how to treat a man or should I say how a man should treat a lady and be a mother all at the same time. She used to make me wear skirts and cross my legs. Taught me how to eat at the table like a lady and she always had a meal ready. She had eight boys not including my grandad so I’m sure she didn’t have much of a choice. Lol, my mom’s mom actually is the one who showed me how to cook and how to get up and go to work and my dad mom taught me how to be a lady while doing it. My sister basically showed me a lot of tough love she inspires me by just doing good in life. I watched her do all the wrong things and still come up with all the right solutions somehow. As far as celebrities, I can’t really say only because I’ve never been really worried about what everyone else was doing I just knew I wanted to be better or on the level with the best so if I had to choose it would be opera as far as business and Beyoncé as far as music!
