Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Larsen.
Molly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a beauty and lifestyle content creator at AllAboutGoodVibes.com. Growing up, I loved dressing up, taking care of my skin and helping to support others. I believe in positivity and seeing the good in all situations. It was my passion to create a place where I can share my personal thoughts and experiences through positive living.
All About Good Vibes was established in mid-2016 in the purpose of sharing my new lifestyle to my friends and family back home in Thailand. It was a hobby back then but now it has grown into a business I have always dreamed of. It’s a feel-good destination to help inspire women to love, care and be themselves while radiating good vibes in their life and style.
I decided to move from Thailand to the U.S. to settle down and to start a family. I was tired of having a full-time job with a strict schedule. I loved what I did but I had already planned to not work under someone when I came to the U.S. It wasn’t an easy decision switching from working full time and making a salary to hustling every day. Sine this is a new industry, not a lot of people understand how this online blogging works and how you can make money from blogging. Sometimes that made me unsure if I was even going to make a living out of this. I’m lucky enough to have a supportive husband who supported me from the start and keeps believing in me. I work really hard and never give up and that’s what got me to where I am today.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not! There has been a big learning curve as this was something completely new to me. With English being my second language, I had to study harder on how to communicate on my blog. I had to learn the US fashion and beauty culture as they are completely different from where I come from. Here are a few obstacles I faced during the early phases of my blogging career:
Becoming a new parent; I started my blog six months after giving birth to my oldest daughter. It was hard to manage the time between taking care of my infant and working on the blog. I didn’t have a working schedule at that time. So, I was feeding the baby while I was working on content from day to night. Just a few months ago, I gave birth to my second daughter, it’s still tough at times, but I can now handle it better even though I now have a toddler and a newborn because I have my working schedule in place.
Being my own boss; From working full-time right after graduating with my bachelor’s to being my own boss was nice. I had a lot of free time and freedom, sometimes too much. First, I had the feeling that I was on a long vacation. It took a few months for me to realize that I am my own boss and I’m running my own business. As my blog grew from a hobby to a business, I spent time creating my own 9-5 schedule, a fun one of course. I had to find and create my own road map and recipe for success. It’s not only about creating content, but it’s also so much more work you have to put in to be able to be successful.
Pitching brands; This was quite hard at first to reach out to brands as a new blogger. I didn’t have enough confidence and didn’t know what to say. It was also hard to deal with rejections. Now that I don’t take it personally if one brand says no, I will move on to the next. No heartbreaking, it’s a norm of any business.
Learning photography; There are so many theories about perfecting your photos. Some say you need to use the most expensive camera, and some say you can use your phone. My suggestion is to own some good lens or have a good photographer or both. My husband is my photographer. He’s doing it as a hobby without having any knowledge, he’s now taking great pictures. It was a lot of fun learning for the both of us.
For editing and styling aspects, some say you don’t need photo filters. Some say to use presets and to stick with a few colors. My recommendation is to find your own style and stick with it. It will take some time but it’s worth it. It’s been a long period of learning and finding my style for me. Now, I have my own signature, a good camera, and a great photographer.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
As a blogger, I create helpful content for my audience. When you visit AllAboutGoodVibes.com, you will find helpful tips to living your life in a positive way, along with fashion and beauty finds and product reviews. I share my passion and experience that I believe will benefit others.
I also help brands deliver their messages to the right audience when they have new products to launch. To bring awareness to existing products and help up selling products to the right target consumer using various social platforms.
One of the specialties I do is Flat Lay photography. This is a great way to incorporate branded content in a lifestyle focused way. This makes for a more connected and relatable relationship with the consumer and I love doing it.
What sets me apart from others are my work ethic and professionalism. I make sure to treat every collaboration and client as they are my number one priority. I always go above and beyond the requirements to make sure both parties are satisfied. Also, I incorporate my personal stories into all of my work to connect better with my audience.
Right now, I’m currently focusing on building a strong community of like-minded people who share similar interests and like inspiring others.
What I am most proud of is that I am able to build trust with my audience and have them believe in me when I give advice.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Do not wait for everything to be perfect. Start as soon as you can as you will learn along the way. You are your own brand and your own boss. Treat your business as if you have to go out for a 9-5 job in a fun and creative way. Create your own working system and follow it. It’s good to connect with other new people who’ve recently started as you can share your experiences with, learn and get support from one another.
I recommend finding a role model who you aspire to be. Notice their success and apply it to your brand.
You will be successful if you put your heart and mind into it. Don’t waste any more time and just do it.
I wish you a lot of success and feel free to connect with me if you need some advice.
