Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Guerrero.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a Model here in the Phoenix Area and my goal is to spread love and positivity within our community. I don’t just model to look pretty in front of the camera but I actually take it seriously. I love the confidence it has brought me throughout the years of doing it here in Phx. I moved to Phoenix from California in 2015 and have met a lot of amazingly talented individuals in the industry. When I first moved, I had no idea where it would take me but looking back, I can say I’m living out exactly what I imagined for myself, I just did not know how or where to start. I met a Photographer by the name of Martin Lowenthal. He was the photographer for a designer I was walking for called Fly Girls Only, the very next day, he got a hold of me and said that he wanted to take some test shots of me, little did I know, those very photos would be the start to where I am now and where I see myself going . you never forget who was there when it all first started. I’m thankful!
As the years took off, fast forward to present day, I have started my business called Ethnic Dream. An ethnic Dream is a group of four talented individuals such as Myself, My Partner, Photographer Calvin Smith and Creative Director/hairstylist Vela Davis. We have teamed up to create everlasting photos that others will be able to hang in there home. We travel and find amazing locations, we plan accordingly, everything down to the detail. We offer Prints, Canvas, and Metals currently in varies sizes. My goal is to see our photos hanging in black-owned businesses, art Gallery’s, coffee shops, etc. Ethnic Dream plans to give back and work with the youth preparing confident classes, encouraging kids and speaking to young adults to stay on there purpose and to always choose Love.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For me, I like to get things done all in one day and when I learn something, I get so excited, I will literally keep myself up thinking about the same thing over and over again. So, I struggle with feeling like I have no time. The best thing I can say is you have TIME and there is no need to rush. And when you feel an off day or two, it’s ok if you missed a day of not doing some type of work, when it comes to your business, know that you are already manifesting by thinking the thoughts you’re thinking. Your wants and your needs are already there, all you have to do is breathe and believe. The next best thing that has helped me is to write everything down. Everything that comes to mind, any ideas you have for your business, even if you’re in the middle of doing something, as soon as that idea comes to your mind, write it down. When I began to write things down, things literally started to come to me. So, ladies, please have your note pad and pen. Also, when you feel overwhelmed with not knowing what to do next, throw on some calming meditation music and allow yourself to just sit still for 5 minutes listening to this music.
What should we know about Ethnic Dream? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As a brand, I’m most proud of the individuals I work with because everyone plays such a huge role. if we didn’t have one person there would be no Ethnic Dream so for me it’s important to highlight everyone rolls because there is alot that goes into a photo shoot that not many see all they see is a photo. The hair details, makeup details, accessories, poses, chemistry, the lighting everything goes into. I will create content that shows the work that is behind the scenes. Sometimes, there is a little craziness I may have to get my hair down in the back of the car on the way to the shoot, but nobody overstands these moments and to me, they are the most valuable moments they are the reason we got “the shot.” I think what sets Ethnic Dream apart is because my partner and I bring so much Chemistry and Love resignations through our photos others can just feel it. Individually, we would post our photos but whenever we posted a photo with us together with it like you can feel the energy and that is truly what sparked up the ideal to come together to create a brand for ourselves here in Phoenix. We are just getting started and im excited to continue this journey.
