Conversations with the Inspiring Meghan Hattabaugh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Hattabaugh.

Meghan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I officially started my blog about a year ago. However, my love for fashion, helping others, and all things pretty have been since forever. My blog isn’t my main job right now, it is kind of like a side hustle and a creative outlet and space where I can speak my mind. Along with blogging, I have found a love for YouTube, creating videos is so much fun and inspiring! From this past year working, having an internship with a blogger, networking, trying to keep up with other bloggers, and working on my new blog, I will say has been mentally exhausting! So, in the past few months, I have made some changes, deciding to put myself first (in the most non-selfish way), less time caring about how many followers I have and paying attention to the loyal ones I already DO have, quitting or letting go of what does not feed me, and using everything I have learned what NOT to do and not doing it. There is so much I want to do in this world and I am just getting started!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, but what in life is going to be a smooth road? If there weren’t struggles then the rewards wouldn’t feel so great! Struggles I have personally experienced in the “blogging/influencer” world are: 1. There are so many things that are behind the scenes that are tricking the everyday viewer, and most everyone is doing them. 2. You will meet people who only want to gain something from you! 3. If you want to be as authentic and genuine as possible the payoff doesn’t happen overnight and that’s okay. 4. Don’t burn bridges, no matter how mistreated you have been it is always best to leave on a good note.

My advice to other women wanting to start on the journey of building their own brand, is to ALWAYS be yourself, do not let anyone’s success get you down (you too will have your own success’ that’s why you are your own person) and to have fun, if the fun is taken out of it and it becomes something you hate or resent it almost defeats the whole purpose of what we are trying to do and create in this world.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into your business story. Tell us more about the business.
Personally, I love to make videos for YouTube, but it is time-consuming so it has been on the back burner recently, and blogging has become my main focus. I wouldn’t say I have a particular genre but my main focuses are fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and even advice from personal experience. I am most proud to say that anything I do or put out there for others to see is my truth and authentic. I also am really proud to say that I have helped people, whether that be with style, boy trouble or just a simple laugh it is a good feeling knowing you did that. I would say my ability to be blunt can set me apart from others also the fact that I am not like every other cookie cutter blogger out there, I may bend the rules, or dress differently or not have a letter board but that’s okay.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Most important piece of advice to any young woman just starting her career is that you alone have so much power to change anything! You have choices you make every day, all day, and if you really want to make an impact you will be bold, courageous, and do what is best, you should always use your voice.
