Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Lange.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Megan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story starts when I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2013. I already had a passion for photography and videography and was always itching for creative outlets and starting new projects. I started blogging my senior year of high school as a way to talk about what I was going through with having Celiac Disease.
When I was a freshman in college, I started Montage By M. I was so grateful that my own business had taken off as I started taking pictures, making sorority videos, and finally making wedding films with Laura K. Moore, Gavyn Gates, and Makayla McGarvey. This team helped me grow so much and encouraged me to follow my passion for making videos.
While I was in college, I was a VS PINK Campus Rep. This opportunity was a highlight of my college career. It expanded my knowledge of brand awareness while helping my personal brand. Being a PINK Campus Rep increased my knowledge and love for social media and digital marketing. So much so that I chose to add a minor in marketing at the U of A, which helped me land a job at GCE in digital marketing.
Once I out of college, I had a lot more time to focus on my blog, this meant new projects, new collaborations, and new topics I wanted to cover. I started “Slay your 20s” back in December of 2018, and since then it has been an amazing way to spotlight young-women in Arizona, who are chasing their dreams and creating the career that they want all while being in their 20s. This series has helped me inspire, and give advice to other women looking to create their own future with every aspiration they’ve ever dreamed included. Slaying your 20s has become my more than a series but my brand and personal mission.
Has it been a smooth road?
Certainly not. In fact, this past year has been one of the hardest yet. Dealing with personal growth, family heartache and the reality of being an adult hit me so much harder than I thought. But staying focused on my goals and throwing myself into my passion projects is truly what kept me going. That and good friends, I would be nothing without the support system I have.
Additionally, my own physical and mental health issues have played a major role in this bumpy journey. But the bumps are what make the journey fun. My auto-immune disease is always bringing new challenges and recently has effected my body-image and mental health a lot. I am always having to change up my routines and adjusting my diet and workout routine. Which can be frustrating because I’m not too fond of change. As a dancer a majority of my life, I never had to worry about working out until I got to college. Splash a dash of lacking all your essential nutrients from a body that was attacking itself, and I barely had the energy to get out bed sometimes! A lot of my support system didn’t understand this at first. I was already very self-conscious about my body image from being cyber-bullied in middle school. That’s where I first took the mentality of “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. I used that experience as motivation for many years to come. Turning social media, something I was terrified of, into something good. As many downfalls social media can have when not used effectively, I knew it could be used to celebrate others, build communities, and most of all empower other like-minded women like myself.
For others, keep going, and you are not alone. I lived my life for so long worried about what others thought instead of what made me happy. Please, do not do this. In a world where young women are told what we should be or do, don’t listen, and being whoever you want to be because the possibilities are endless. Chase what sets your soul on fire. Indulge in that feeling in your heart and stomach when you know you need to be apart of something. Remember that every day is a fresh start, an opportunity to better yourself.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into MegannLangee.com – Slaying your 20s, Montage By M story. Tell us more about the business.
Although it is just the beginning of a long list of dreams, I’m currently pursuing my passion projects of blogging, content creation, and videography. MegannLangee.com is my baby, broken into a lifestyle blog – Life of Megs and Career focused content blog that specializes in highlighting extraordinary young women creating their careers/future fearlessly – Slaying you 20s.
I’m also known for my videography business Montage by M. Specializing in senior portraits, and wedding films.
As a continuously growing personal brand, I’m proud of how far I have come in just a year, my vision is clear, my connections are stronger and I’m that much closer to my goals. I hope to one day start a community that helps others follow to create their future, and publish a book.
Being a part of my girl gang, and the Hello Darlin’ community is special because we believe in flourishing creative outlets, and always community over competition. It’s very easy to get discouraged with all the comparison to everyone’s craft, especially online, but with my personal brand and Slaying your 20s, it comes down to inspiring others to find their own creative creation.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I’ve been reading a book recently called “20-Something, 20-Everything: A Quarter-life Woman’s Guide to Balance and Direction” By Christine Hassler. Which talks about the idea that because we have so many more opportunities than the generations before us, we are feeling the pressure of having and doing it all. Society tells us we have to have a career, we have to have a degree, we have to have a husband, we have to have babies, right? Wrong. I think a major barrier in female leadership in general, is our own self-doubt. Want to be a career woman/entrepreneur? Great, do it. Want to be a mom? Great, that’s a leadership role too. Especially for young women, we start to feel the pressures of following what would be the “norm” when really everyone’s normal is unique to every individual. Every female is a leader in some role of their life, and should not only believe in themselves but believe in other women in what every journey they chose for their life because it’s theirs. This mindset helps promotes a community over competition and fully embracing “empowered women, empower women.”
