Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Siegel.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lori. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My interest in health and fitness started at a very young age without even realizing it. My mother is what you would refer to as a “health nut” she was very cautious when I was growing up about the food we ate. We had a garden full of fresh vegetables and fruits that we ate from mostly and we never had fast food, ever.
There were occasions where we would be allowed pizza or cake for birthdays and holidays but it was rare. I did not enjoy growing up this way, I truly didn’t appreciate the healthy habits she was instilling in us.
Looking back, I am so grateful for that upbringing, it built my knowledge, foundation, and love for helping others discover how good it feels when you fuel your body with the right foods!
I am now a full-time Fitness Trainer and Meal Plan/ Macro Coach. I love helping people find ways to fuel their bodies to reach their goals without doing any kind of trendy diet. I believe that everyone can find a balance, there does not have to be suffering or drastic life changes.
Small changes, over time, will give lasting results instead of trying diet after diet. I did ballet and gymnastics through my adolescent years and continue to take dance classes still to this day. Dance was healthy for me in many ways growing up but it did put an immense amount of pressure on weight and physical appearance.
I learned to talk badly about my body and hate it before I learned how to love and appreciate my body. I did not yet know how to celebrate my body with exercise and feel empowered by my ability to move so gracefully and effortlessly.
My goal as a trainer is to help others learn how to exercise because they love their bodies. It’s not as punishment for disliking what the scale says or to make up for going off of their diet. We only get one body, you can’t trade it in for a new one when you’re feeling sluggish or sick. It is your responsibility to feel as good as you can and enjoy the foods you eat!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My health and fitness career has not been linear, I have had many ups and downs learning about my own body. I had to overcome a lot of limiting beliefs before feeling confident enough to help others on their journey.
My advice for other women beginning their fitness journey or career is that no matter where you start, just START! You will never feel 100% ready or be totally confident, you just have to take one step in the right direction. Find someone to help you reach your goals, someone who has achieved the physique or level you admire. You are capable of anything! Your mind is the only thing that holds you back, not your body.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Fitness Coach for Orangetheory Fitness and I also coach clients online making customized meal plans and beginner to advanced weight lifting plans. I specialize in making my client’s customized meal plans they can follow that work best for their lifestyles that will be long term.
In my own journey, I’ve found that knowledge is power when it comes to nutrition and exercise. It’s important as a trainer to provide my clients with knowledge so they can learn more about their body and reach their goals. It helps clients stay on track and see results faster because I am there to provide a high level of accountability and personal guidance during their journey, it builds confidence and success!
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I think women have more opportunities now than ever before. It is an empowering and exciting time to be a young woman who has big dreams and goals. I think things have shifted and female empowerment and uplifting one another is trending in the right direction!
Social media helps because women can share their passions with the world and inspire others that might not know how to start or what can be accomplished. While social media isn’t all good, there are tons of opportunities to connect with people worldwide.
Personally, I love to see women making waves in the community by setting a good example of working hard and pursuing their dreams no matter what the obstacle or barrier.
