Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Robeson.
Lindsay, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Almost two years ago, I was at the end of my pregnancy with my second daughter. My husband came to me out of the blue and told me he had been listening to recent podcasts about plant-based eating. I didn’t think much of it and thought it was just a passing conversation. The next day, he asked me a very life-changing question. “Would you consider going plant-based?” No meat, no dairy, essentially eating vegan. I laughed and thought there is no way that we could do this. He went on about the health benefits and what it could for the end of my pregnancy and the health of our children. Almost two years later, we have been plant-based. Since then, I started an Instagram page to share our journey through transitioning to plant-based and that blossomed months later to become a recipe editor and creator for the first vegan parenting magazine.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been anything but smooth. We essentially went cold turkey into a plant-based diet and I felt like giving up several times because it didn’t feel natural. I had hardships with feeling like I might not fit in with family and friends because we changed our lifestyle so drastically. I struggled with having the feeling that my recipes may not be good enough and that maybe I would not be taken seriously. My advice is to stick to being yourself and if you want to better yourself or change in any way that will make you a better person that is all that matters. No one else’s opinion, no else’s lifestyle, do you and what will make you happy.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Plant-Powered Parents story. Tell us more about the business.
I started out just creating recipes for new plant-based people struggling with staying the course. Did a lot of research, listened to podcasts, read books and spoke with vegan physicians. I currently work for Raise Vegan magazine creating recipes for the magazine, website, and quarterly magazine that is now in stand across America. I am most proud of how I have helped people struggling with changing their diet and food choices. I love sharing the knowledge I have about the health benefits of fruits and vegetables, especially for mothers and families. I think what sets me apart but also makes me relatable is that I’m a stay at home mom that has a passion for food and I get to share that every day to help people.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
A woman’s voice is being heard more and more these days and it’s only going to get stronger. I think that as a woman we have all the opportunity in the world. There is no limit and I think social media is the perfect place to start expressing yourself.
