Conversations with the Inspiring Lavi Popitan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lavi Popitan.

Lavi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Phoenix Native and went to school for photography and graphic design. I am still growing and gaining inspiration everyday. I have always had a love for design and styling/photography and feel there is always room for growth.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are so many influencers out there, I’m not quite sure if I truly love the word.. “influencers’ I often get called that and I would hope that if I do influence anyone, it’s in a positive and real way. Although I do love using social media platforms for sharing favorite coffee shops, local shops, lifestyle and travel. I want to make it clear that creating something beautiful like imagery or styling something in most cases are staged and I can understand how viewing someones life as perfect can be discouraging. So, if someone is feeling discouraged that their life or home isn’t beautiful and can’t possibly live up to certain standards, don’t be. We all try to to put our best foot forward because life isn’t perfect by all means. We just choose to share and put out what we find beautiful and inspiring. Any creative with a passion and strong will can do it. There is room for everyone to grow as a creative.

what should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I went to school for photography and graphic design. I specialize in styling/photography. I have always had a love for design and shooting interiors, events and lifestyle as well as food photography. Food photography is actually not shown as much lately in my work even though it’s my number one passion. I have a blog in the works that will hopefully be up before the end of this year. I am still growing and finding what works best for me. I think what sets me apart from others may possibly be that I have always stayed true to myself whether it involved my personal sense of style or design. I’ve always preferred things that are timeless versus what was currently on trend.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Since the beginning of my Instagram journey, I have always been inspired by Beth Kirby. She is behind the blog named @localmilk, my absolute favorite food/lifestyle blog. I have always found her to be so inspiring and shared many similarities in our styles of home design/kitchenware, etc. I have always loved incorporating vintage timeless pieces with modern and it has been interesting to see how she uses them. As far as inspiration from books, my favorites would be a variety of cookbook/lifestyle magazines. To name a few, Kinfolk magazine, Cereal, Sunday Suppers, Simple Fare and The Kinfolk Table. Not only are these books chalk full of delicious recipes, but they are also filled with beautiful lifestyle and interior photos. All of my favorite things!
