Today we’d like to introduce you to Launi Brockett.
Launi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story has been quite a journey. With each chapter, I’ve learned through exploration, finding success and what I refer to as lessons rather than failure.
As a creative, I’ve leaned toward the arts, yet through college, I realized the dynamics of my personality needed more. I spent many years soul searching, with many forks in the road.
Not fully comfortable in my own skin- I set off to learn about life by trial and error. This led me to a rather diverse experience. I left college to work as a flight attendant for the airlines. During these years, I learned not only about myself but about people from all walks of life. I was consumed with meeting so many people from all over the world.
After three years, the airline filed bankruptcy. Unsure of what to do next, I felt it was time to return to school and get my degree. Upon graduation, I up and moved again – this would be the 9th city and 5th state. After a year in California pursuing a career in media, I moved back to Arizona. I was once again at a crossroad.
I dabbled in art working on commercial projects before deciding it wouldn’t enable me to pay off student loans. Hence, I followed in my family’s footsteps once again.
Real estate would be my career for the next 12 years. I found my niche – it enabled me to wear so many hats and no two days were the same. After many successful years – the market crashed. The next several years would prove that through perseverance I could surpass many tough days.
It was during this time, I embarked on a soul searching and moving to Canada. I built a very small portrait photography business. It was incredibly exhilarating living in another country and not worrying about day to day stressors. After a year, I moved back to the states and continued photography part-time while immersing myself in animal causes.
It was my involvement in advocating for and photographing the Salt River Horses which got me through many tough days. There were challenges I’d face without really knowing from one day to the next how I’d put them behind me.
I never gave up and I battled often every day many emotions and insecurities. However, my support system and family was there every step of the way. Two years ago – ironically after being my fathers caretaker during his final journey – I got my strength and confidence back. My only regret is he missed being able to see his daughter once again find the light at the end of the tunnel and surpass even her own goals and expectations.
So, here I am today – striving to make a difference while maintaining a work-life balance. I divide my time between my love of real estate, staying active in animal rescue causes and spurts of photography jobs. It’s a successful marriage which provides balance and much happiness.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think the biggest thing I’d impart on young women is to be kind to themselves. There is no such thing as perfection so trying to achieve it only breaks the spirit.
Love yourself – know that any bad day is temporary. Reach out to your support system and don’t fear to ask for help. Trust me we’ve all been in a dark space but it’s temporary
Choose a passion, get involved in something bigger than yourself. Step outside your mindset and know that it’s freeing to challenge all that gives you comfort. If you fall short of your goal- then that wasn’t the door you were meant to walk through. Another will present itself and you’ll know the minute you step over the threshold.
And if someone tells you-you can’t do something, likely it’s because they are fearful to try. Go for it – nothing is ever set in stone.
What should we know about Realtor 4 Rescue? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m smiling with my work. For me, it’s no longer work. I absolutely love what I do- because it fits my personality and my passion. When I got out of the real estate – I swore I’d never go back. However, when I realized it was not the job but dissecting and choosing how to do it on my terms, everything changed.
My entire “why” revolves around my advocacy for animals and of course people. While I’ve always spoken up for what I believe in – now I no longer question it. There are many causes for which I’m passionate about. Making a difference in my life goal and purpose. Anytime I can make someone smile, help an animal in need, impact even one person with my choices – I find fulfillment.
So, what sets me apart – I’m not motivated by monetary success. What drives me is to make a difference while I’m here, to share my life lessons and inspire others to get involved. If it’s animals they choose to help, even better.
Always stepping outside the box and not letting doubt stop me.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Be patient – don’t compare yourself to others. Do what you want and fills your heart and don’t be afraid to take chances. Along the way, look at obstacles as opportunities to re-evaluate. And don’t ever let someone convince you-you can’t achieve most if not all you aspire.
Know you may have to pay your dues – but in the end, you’ll see it all had a place in your story.
