Conversations with the Inspiring Kyle Brathwaite

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Brathwaite.

Kyle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hey guys what’s up? I’m more known as “Kaito.”

I started doing photography during my freshman year of high school in Dunedin/Clearwater, Florida. Armed with my iPhone 5s, iMovie, & a few photo editing apps at the time, I would go out with my friends @Shotsbydanny & @Londonmadethis all around the city and shoot. Whatever caught my eye would eventually end up on the camera roll, haha.

I couldn’t afford a camera at the time & was huge on shoes so I would hustle what I could to keep up with the ever so changing iPhones for their cameras (literally) fast forward to Phoenix the grind was slow I didn’t know anyone here I stayed indoors a lot itching to get out and make something happen & I guess you could say it was fate. Over time, I linked up with formerly known S13 who introduced me to Sonoma where I shot my first show at the Sesh Hollow waterboys concert then shortly after also the Juice Wrld & Ski Mask concert after that it went up from there. Love started pouring in all over and people started noticing eventually who “Kaito” was.

Where I am today is working on events with the @TheRealKhiry going all over Phoenix shooting with individuals, artist, & also shooting some major artist at Mint in Scottsdale. Thanks to Khiry, right now, he has really put me on another level to prepare to take over.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to where I am now has definitely not been easy for one moment. Every event you go out to every show, every shoot you have to prove yourself over & over again… & it’s not necessarily proving yourself to your client that booked you. It’s the competitive game of photographers that are also out here & a lot of people out here are amazing in their field.

I try to stay ahead of the rest but the main thing is to focus on your craft, never get lost if someone is ahead of you or may edit something a bit differently that gives something that extra pop you might not have yet. Your time will come & trust me it will, it’s just up to you to watch your lane & surpass who’s on your left & right or in front of you.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m mainly known for my event photography or portraits of people that is really my specialty, I stand apart from the others in the way I edit the photos I take & the vision I have before I go into a shoot. Usually already knowing what I want beforehand makes it easier for me to capture the scene vision or idea I’m chasing.

As a service provider, I can say I’ve never had an unhappy customer & that’s what makes me get up every day to do what I do besides the love of my work. It makes me happy knowing others can speak proudly on my name & can enjoy what I take from my side of the lens.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
The only woman that has inspired me in my life is my mother.
She never gave up, never settled for less, always hustled for her family & carried us on her back all the way through life, my heart lies with my mom & she’s played a huge role in how I came into doing what I do with documenting life with cameras as I grew, it fascinated me to keep memories & I guess you could say I love having all these memories especially of things I’ve done to carry on forever.
