Conversations with the Inspiring Karey Northington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karey Northington.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Entrepreneurship and the calling to create a team appeared in my life at an early age. When I was 8, my cousin and I decided to start a business selling flowers in the neighborhood. We also organized a club with different positions. I ignored my natural inclinations and after completing high school with high honors, decided to pursue a career in the medical field.

I obtained a degree in Psychology and Nursing. I worked in cardiac care and labor and delivery before taking on the greatest role of my life as a stay at home mom. I returned to nursing when my son began kindergarten as a school nurse.

During my son’s earlier years, I became obsessed with preventative care. I was diving further into nutrition literature and focused on exercise. I felt there was much knowledge desired regarding preventative care that was not addressed in nursing school.

I began Northington Fitness and Nutrition with my husband in 2015. We have been able to help hundreds (likely thousands at this point) of individuals find a sustainable and healthy way to eat for their bodies and lifestyle. In 2017, we opened ProteinHouse Gilbert to continue our mission to spread the benefits of eating well.

I finally feel in alignment with what I was called to do. Coming full circle and combining my love of caring for others in the medical field and my entrepreneurial spirit, Northington Fitness and Nutrition and ProteinHouse Gilbert have allowed me to impact others in a way I never thought possible. I am more fulfilled than I’ve ever known in my professional life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been less than smooth. Large financial decisions have had to be made in the course of building the businesses. It also has been a challenge for me to avoid taking things personally. I am a very sensitive and empathetic person by nature. My advice would be to always follow your heart but do your due diligence when making business decisions and be consistent. Success is found in daily routines.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Northington Fitness and Nutrition and ProteinHouse Gilbert story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in helping busy, working men and women find a sustainable way to achieve their fitness goals, gain confidence, and become their highest selves. I do this through online and in-person coaching programs as well as the quality food available at ProteinHouse Gilbert.

We are most proud of our attention to detail and caring hearts. We love to connect on a deeper level with our clients and take pride in digging deep to find the perfect solutions for them.

At ProteinHouse, we sacrifice high-profit margins to serve organic, non-GMO, sustainable items because we believe it makes a difference. When you eat well, you feel well. These characteristics set us apart from other personal training services and meal options.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mom has been a great source of inspiration for me. She was also a nurse. The impact she made on me with her work ethic, caring heart, and the way she shined her light in the world is unmeasurable.

My tribe that I lovingly refer to as my “biz besties”; Amanda Freick, Sohee Lee, Lindsey Schwartz and Megan Rigby. They are wicked smart and motivate me daily.

Women that are living my dream and spreading truth on a higher scale like Alexi Panos and Lori Harder inspire me daily.
