Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather M. Duquette-Wolf, RD, CSSD.
Dr. Duquette-Wolf, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I created HMD Nutrition to provide scientifically based nutrition information to help those in need of sustainable weight loss, disease reversal and disease prevention.
I am very passionate about teaching people how to eat better (not perfect), exercise, rest and de-stress, improve energy and eliminate brain fog.
I am a result driven person and love to help people reach your goals and I have worked with thousands of clients with various results ranging from weight loss to reversing chronic disease to eliminating all medications.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I decided from day one to work for myself and not be locked into one 9 to 5 job. I wanted to call my own shots and teach nutrition on my advanced education, not a forced “food guide pyramid” type of setting (think hospital).
I had to hold many part-time jobs for a while to build my own business, but it has been an exciting journey having worked various jobs ranging from the IRS, local fire departments, gyms, and an international lecturing company.
There are so many different opportunities for an RD, keeping your options open is exciting!
what should we know about HMD Nutrition? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I started out in traditional medical nutrition therapy, working with people for weight loss, diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. I quickly learned that it is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to our nutrition and all health issues.
I then started focusing more on exercise and sports nutrition and now specialize in all G.I. issues, autoimmune issues and over all inflammation.
Moving forward, I am now going to specialize in bariatrics and working with advanced nutrition therapy for dementia and Alzheimer’s prevention and reversal.
I am very proud of many of my patients who took the time to become educated and change their lives! When it comes right down to it, there is no quick fix and it takes education, application, time and patience to truly change your health.
What sets me apart is the fact that I spend a significant amount of time with each patient getting to know them and educating them about long-term results. I truly care about my patients as their success is a direct reflection of my ability to educate and support them.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
From day one, working in the medical community, I definitely noticed dietitians, especially females, were not well respected in the industry. I do believe that over time this has changed as most medical professionals now acknowledge that nutrition therapy needs to be the basis to treat all diseases.
As females in the medical community, we definitely need to work harder to prove ourselves.
