Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Clark.
Dylan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am the girl behind Whiplash Queen. I am 23 years old. When I was 18, I was going to college to get a bachelor’s degree in business administration. I had always loved all things girly and all things beauty since I was a little girl, but when my senior year came, and it was time to make “adultish” decisions, I thought I needed a degree. Instead of pursuing beauty, which is what I really loved deep down, I decided to go to college and get a business degree. Don’t get me wrong, I like business too, just not as much as I did beauty. Long story short, I realized I could do both beauty and business, and I didn’t need a degree to do it. One day, I decided to “jump” and go get trained in lash extensions. I fell in love with lashes, dropped out of college, gave my family a heart attack, enrolled in aesthetics school, and have never looked back since. It was one of the best decision I ever made.
When I was 21, I married my biggest cheerleader, Hayden. He is a firefighter and the sweetest boy you’ll ever meet. He supports me in everything I do. If you were to go up to him and ask him what size lash extensions you have on or what curl they are, he could tell you. He also might be the boy behind the camera for a lot of my Instagram pictures. If that’s not true love, I don’t know what is!
Fast forward to now, I have been lashing for five years. I own my own business, Whiplash Queen. I lash clients full time and have started sharing my passion and teaching lash courses this last year! I plan to expand more one day. I strongly believe in lifting other women up! I believe in supporting a woman and not bringing other women down. I believe there is room for EVERYBODY, Most importantly, I believe in going after your dreams no matter how big or how small, even if it’s scary.
This road hasn’t been easy, especially because I have been so young, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!!
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been all rainbows and butterflies. When I first started five years ago, social media and the internet was not what it is today. I felt like I was going through things blind, and it was a lot of trial and error. There wasn’t all of the training’s, education, and mentoring that there is today. It made things harder. I fell many times and got back up. Lot’s of doors closed, and I had to find a new one. I wouldn’t trade any of it though, because I feel like that is why I’m so passionate about what I do. I want to help girls not have to go through all the trial and error I had to go through. That is the beauty of this day in age! There are tons of mentors and educators you can learn from who have already gone through the trial and error that can help guide you so that you don’t have to!
Another hard thing for me has been the fear of falling. One of my favorite quotes is, “if you want to conquer fear, don’t sit at home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” I live by this. People think that I don’t get scared because I go after my dreams. WRONG! I definitely do get scared, I just don’t let it take over me and keep me from going after my dreams. At the end of the day, we only regret the jumps we didn’t take! I live by that!
My advice for other women who are just starting their journey is to never give up, believe in yourself, and to NEVER let fear get in the way of you going after your dreams. It certainly will if you let it. JUST JUMP and GO FOR IT! Even if it’s scary. When one door closes, open another one. When you fall, get back up. You can do hard things! Your future self will thank you!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am an Esthetician that specializes in eyelash extensions, specifically classic and Russian volume lashes. I lash clients full time myself, and I also do lash training’s and education as well. I absolutely love it, and I love sharing my passion with others!! I am most known for good quality and healthy lash application that won’t damage anybody’s natural lashes. Preserving the natural lash and not damaging somebody’s natural lashes is soooo important to me. This is something that is getting lost in our industry and lash training’s, which is why I make my lash training’s and education so in-depth on this.
I am also known for building other women up. I named my brand “Whiplash Queen” based off the quote… “real queen’s fix each other’s crowns.” I love this, and truly believe this! I think that there is room for EVERYONE to be successful. Everyone brings something different and unique to the table, and it’s not a competition.
Something that sets me apart from others is my passion. Whether you’re my client or my student, you will never feel like another number and I will always give you my 100% effort. I truly love what I do, and LOVE sharing my passion with others.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mom. She seriously rocks!! She’s got a heart of gold and is the hardest worker I know. She has always been a good example to me on being confident, kind, genuine, a hard worker, and ALWAYS staying humble. Not to mention, she always stays true to her. That is something I have admired a lot about her. She doesn’t care what other people think, and will always just be herself. She owns her own successful wedding business, and is a fabulous mom at the same time! She was a good example to me of going after your dreams. I have always looked up to her and wanted to own my own business and be a great mom like her when I grew up!
