Conversations with the Inspiring Casey Hamm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Hamm.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Casey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was not always health savvy. Going out to eat and indulging in so-called “healthy food” was always a faster and more convenient option until I realized that I was no longer serving my body. In 2014, I began suffering from severe digestive problems. This problem started in my gut but gradually took over my life. My skin would break out in cystic acne due to toxin build-up and stress. I was unhappy, uncomfortable, and terrified about what was going on internally. After suffering from these symptoms, I decided that I needed to make a lifestyle change. The changes I made really have altered my life for the better. I researched foods and ingredients every day until I was able to find a balance of foods I needed and foods I could eliminate from my diet. After years of committing myself to in order to solve my own problems, I developed a passion to help others. I created my Instagram account (@healthfulcasey) and my website (CaseyHamm.co) to use as a hub to host all of the information I wanted to share with those around me. Now, I am a nutritionist who helps people live their healthiest lives!

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has and continues to be a challenge! The first challenge I encountered was learning to build a website. This was really difficult for me when I started out and it still can be frustrating. I wasted a lot of money and time trying to build a website that didn’t achieve what I was trying to create. I had to start all over multiple times. However, it’s really important to learn how your website works so you can fully manage it and not rely on anyone else. Here’s a tip — it is important to know how to make simple changes on your website. Constantly relying on a web developer can be frustrating, because it can take days for the developer to respond to your request or do it correctly. You have the vision, so being able to change pictures and add blog posts quickly yourself is important to stay relevant and fresh. However, you should know your limitations. For tasks that far exceed your website skills, use a web developer so you can focus on other important aspects of your business. Another challenge has been putting myself and my content out into the world. From photos to recipes, to blog posts, and photos of myself, it has been a challenge. I realized that people actually read my content and I would be fearful or negative judgment. However, the only way to get better at these things is to create content, post it, and get feedback! Now, I love scrolling through my Instagram and seeing old pictures/posts and see how far I have come.

My number one piece of advice is to find a mentor or a program that teaches you how to be successful in the business you’re trying to start. For online businesses and bloggers, there are so many resources available online to learn from. When I first started, I took Marie Forleos’s 6-week course called, “B-School”. This course gives you as a step-by-step guide on how to start an online business. Highly recommend her program!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into CaseyHamm.co story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a nutritionist who lives for helping people become the healthiest versions of themselves! I achieve this by coaching individuals in one-on-one sessions to assess food allergies, digestive issues, and weight problems. My goal is to teach my clients how to drop the latest “fad-diets” and live a permanent healthy lifestyle. Also, I work with corporate businesses to create formal health and wellness programs within their company.

What sets me apart from other nutritionists is that I have personally researched and experimented with nearly all of the different dietary lifestyles out there such as Paleo, Whole30, Ayurveda, Veganism, Plant-Based, Keto, and many more. Most people do not understand that one dietary lifestyle might not physically work for them due to their body composition. For example, a thin individual who is always cold will not thrive off of a raw, plant-based diet because their bodies do not produce enough digestive fire in their stomachs to digest the raw food. This individual needs cooked food. I take out all of the guesswork and research for my clients and give them the best options. One size does not fit all when it comes to health.

Something I am really proud of is the launch of my Corporate Health & Wellness service. Coming from the corporate world, I know how important it is to have a solid community at work who supports healthy living. Spending 8 hours in an environment where unhealthy living is usually encouraged, makes it difficult for someone who is just starting on their health and wellness journey. Sometimes, the corporate community does not support those who are different. I can think of countless examples of myself and my clients being encouraged to “just have 1 donut” when they are consciously trying to avoid this unhealthy temptation. Having support during this journey is important, and this is where I come in!

60% of the current company I am working with joined the health and wellness program that was recently implemented. Each person has such different goals and everyone is supporting each other! Now, there is a resource and onsite nutritionist to help these individuals reach their goals which will result in happier and healthier lives for these employees!

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I think female leadership is booming in the health and wellness industry. The main barrier I see is women not supporting other women in their industry or just in general. I would love to see more collaboration between women rather than competition. Together, we can help more people live their healthiest life. I learn from probably 30 different health and wellness bloggers and nutritionists, not just one. Each person has a unique way of sharing information and I love learning from all of them! There are plenty of people to serve in this world and there is no need to compete for business. We all want to help people in some way through our business so why not spread the message!
