Conversations with the Inspiring Brunella Montano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brunella Montano.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
About three years ago, I had a blood infection that I almost died from. At the time, no one thought I was going to pull through, the doctor had told my family to expect the worst. I prayed hard and everyone I knew was praying that I would make it. When I got the news from my doctor that I had beat the infection, we were all… words just can’t describe how happy we were

I felt like I had a second chance and I didn’t want to waste that. Having that near-death experience gave me the courage to do what I always wanted to do which is hair. After a couple of months of recovery, I went to my first tour at Penrose Academy and I fell in love. I made sure when I started to ask every question possible and take every opportunity to learn as much as I could! I worked as hard as I could while still trying to be a mom/wife to my two kids and husband! It was very challenging but so worth it! My educators helped me out a lot not just learning hair but also giving me challenges and helping me be a better person as well. The lessons I’ve learned at Penrose has helped me more than I thought it would. I know this is only the beginning and I can’t wait to see where I go from here

Has it been a smooth road?
I wish! There have been too many times where I thought I couldn’t do it or it got too hard trying to balance school with family. As cliche as it sounds, you just have to work hard and not let anyone’s negative thoughts/words, even your own, stop you from doing what you have a passion for. I had to be o.c. (over contracted) at school for three months, I was one of the last ones to finish my hours but I didn’t let that get me down instead I used that extra time to meet some of the best people I have ever met and learn even more from them. You really have to make every minute count

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I have my cosmetology license so I can do any service, I’m also certified in lash extensions, microblading and I’m a certified make up artist (specializing in airbrush) I love being able to provide many services, which is something I take pride in. Right now, I am concentrating on nails at Vanity Nail Bar! I love it here and I’m learning of one of the best in the nail world! What sets me apart, I feel, is that I concentrate on little details. Whether its hair, nails or facials, I feel like sometimes the smallest of details can make a huge difference! Sometimes, it’s things we don’t think about like the pressure of the massage, or tiny details in nail design, or holding hair a certain way or angle for color or cuts. Small details are important!

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I feel like anything a woman wants to do, she can do! If the opportunity is there, we are starting to learn that we can make that opportunity happen instead of waiting for it and I love it! I have my daughter (five years old) and she’s not allowed to say she can’t do something, just because I want to make sure she knows she can do anything she wants to! I don’t think there’s a particular position that’s well for women because we can do it all. 😉
