Conversations with the Inspiring Brooklyn Pacconi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooklyn Pacconi.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brooklyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to Phoenix to go to Nursing school at Grand Canyon University. After I graduated, I got a job at Banner University Medical Center – Phoenix in the Med/Surg pulmonary and plastics department. It has taught me so much in the 3+ years that I’ve been on the floor and shaped me into the nurse that I am today. I started as a new grad and I now act as a charge nurse on the floor. I never thought that I would be where I am now when I first started. I learn something new every day and I’m always open to new ideas and new opportunities and that has helped me become well rounded and educated in my career. I am now starting a new career on the side as a cosmetic nurse injector. I love the hospital and I want to stay there longer but I also want to see a different side of nursing. I believe that when you make people feel beautiful and happy that that can improve their overall confidence, health, and wellbeing as well. When I’m not working, I love to travel. I’ve been to many places around the world and I’ve loved each one. Each destination has taught me about different cultures and lifestyles and it’s been so fun to experience a little bit of each of them!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road along the way. Nursing school isn’t easy. I had a lot of long nights studying and doing homework while working a full-time job. It was tough and at times I wondered if it was even worth it. I look back now and I am so glad I pushed through and put in all the hard work. I couldn’t ask for a better career. It’s so rewarding. Any advice I can give to others is you can do it. It’s hard and you’re going to cry and get frustrated but this is what makes us better and stronger. Once you make it through, you will look back at everything you overcame and feel amazing. Trust me you do, whatever your obstacle or challenge maybe you have to do it for you and remember the reason that you wanted to do it in the first place. Take it one step at a time and before you know it you will be done.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Injector Bar story. Tell us more about the business.
I work at Banner University Medical Center – Phoenix. Our floor specializes in pulmonary and plastics patients. I work three days a week, 12-hour shifts, caring for up to five patients a day when I work on the floor. It’s not as easy as it looks, I care for patients by passing medications throughout the day, doing wound care, prepping patients for surgeries and post-op care, educating our patients on their care, medications, and discharge care, talking with physicians, physical therapists, and case managers, etc. to coordinate each patient care and much more. It’s an all-day process. Sometimes, we don’t get breaks to eat or even go to the bathroom. When I am a charge nurse at work, I help out the floor staff care for their patients and help in emergency situations. It may be a tough job but it’s so rewarding. I love watching patients health improve and knowing I helped change someone’s life. I try to stay positive at work and in life. I like to think everything happens for reason and try not to dread on the bad.

I am now starting cosmetic nurse injecting on the side because I want to see a different side of nursing. As a cosmetic nurse injector, I will be specializing in botox, fillers, kybella, PRP, hair restoration and microneedling. I recently just got certified and It’s been so much fun learning about this different field. I love watching each patient smile after their treatment and how happy they are at the results. I know this area gets a lot of backlashes and I was the same before I learned more about it. I think the field can really make a difference in someone’s life. Patients use it as a jump start to going back to the gym or changing their lifestyle. It’s definitely not what most people think it is.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I feel that there are so many opportunities that women are well-positioned for. Women are strong, smart individuals and sometimes we forget that. We focus on the things we feel we can’t do or things people tell us we can’t do but we can do anything we set our mind to. Women are great leaders, organizers and educators and much more. We help empower each other and bring each other up and I think we should always continue to do so. I know so many powerful and amazing women who built themselves up from nothing and started businesses or new careers and it’s inspiring.
