Conversations with the Inspiring Bronwyn Price

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bronwyn Price.

Bronwyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started taking photos for fun when I was about 12 years old. I used my dad’s Sony A550 without having any knowledge on cameras; I just pointed and shot. Although I was not even close to professionalism, I really enjoyed it as a hobby. My parents noticed this and bought me my first, little Nikon. This sparked my interest in learning more about camera settings and how to create a balanced composition. I practiced taking self-portraits with help from my camera, tripod and 10-second timer. This helped me realize that I had a great love for portrait photography which later led me to take senior, family, and couple photos my sophomore year of high school. I continued with portrait photography until senior year and then began partnering with companies to photograph their products. The first companies I shot for were Thread Wallets and Original Grain. Both excellent companies! Over the next three years, I worked with various companies and now, I am so happy to be working with Inkkas World Wear and Lems Shoes!!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is never a smooth one. This sounds like a cliché statement, but it is a true one. One of the greatest challenges I face is finding daily inspiration for my photography. In the beginning, I would only lose inspiration for a few days, but as time went on, my creative ruts felt deeper and often lasted longer. Just recently, I pulled myself out of a creative rut that lasted over a year! That was a weird time for me because photography no longer consumed my life as it had before. I felt empty and it was very discouraging. Luckily, I have two amazing parents and loving friends who encouraged me to persist.

Perhaps the greatest challenge for those of us in a creative field is that our work is a reflection of our hearts. We are human, and our emotions change daily. We must learn to work with our emotions, not force art which is not honest and let our work speak for us in any way it wants to. We cannot edit our creations; they must flow from a true and honest place. Creative ruts are normal. My advice for anyone in a creative field is this: Keep making art, keep expressing your truest self, even when you are not happy with the results. The art which you feel is not “good” may be the very art that speaks to another. We will never be inspired by hiding from our creative energies; it is who we are. We are artists.

What should we know about Bronwyn Price Photography? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a self-taught photographer specializing in portrait, fashion, and brand photography. In the past, I have been known for taking portraits and travel photos. Now, I am also considered a content creator. This is so exciting for me and I absolutely love creating things for different companies! My goal for every photo shoot is to take bright, action-based photos that will engage my viewers.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Personally, I have not yet experienced issues in the workplace as a female. In general, I think we, as a society, have come a long way from discrimination and inequality!
