Conversations with the Inspiring Breanna Hamper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Hamper.

Breanna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Capturing special moments into a still photograph that I can keep forever has always been so exciting to me! I started off taking pictures of everything and anything when I was younger and it seems I just couldn’t stop since then! When I was about 16 years old I made a big decision to save up all my money to buy an actual Canon camera, not knowing I would one day run my own little business. I started off using the automatic buttons that did everything for me, but eventually I self-taught myself Manual mode and everything I needed to know for creating photographs I loved. In the beginning, nature photography was all I wanted to do but later got inspired to expand my experiences and try taking portraits! I gave plenty of friends and families free shoots to get some practice and was having SO much fun working with people! Once I started actually getting the hang of portraits and posing people, I knew I had to begin charging if I wanted to make any profit or get new gear sometime down the road!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Brezee Photography has not always been a smooth road but I always try to remember if I hit a bump in the road, it’s just a bump not a mountain, I can make the choice to go over it, around it but to never stop moving forward. I am a strong believer that God gives us struggles along our paths to teach us and shape us into the person we are meant to be!

Some struggles I have faced along my photography journey is lack of an audience, competition, not feeling good enough and creative blocks. Photography is such a huge and competitive hobby to have as a job these days. Getting yourself out there to build an audience can be so hard and a lot of work when there are so many others around you doing the same thing! There have been plenty of days where I felt my work or skills was not good enough to continue or worthy enough to get paid for. Lastly creative blocks have always been my biggest struggle, it’s hard to always be creative and motivated to create something amazing that stands out from others.

My advice to other women who are just starting their journey is to not give up and focus on your OWN progress! Social media today has a huge impact on how we see ourselves in comparison to others, but remember to step back and realize we are all moving at our own pace. You are not too far behind, you are not less worthy, you are going at your own pace and you WILL be successful if you stay true to who you are and work hard for what you want!

What should we know about Brezee Photography? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As the owner of Brezee Photography I always wanted to use my God given talent to reflect back on His beautiful creations. I think it is so easy to get caught up in the negative and bad times of life, so I want to use my photography to remind people of the joy their loved ones bring, the emotions of leaving for a mission, the joy in graduating or getting married and just being able to capture these moments in a still frame they can keep forever and ever.

I am still trying to find exactly what type of photography I really specialize in, but overall I am known for my portraits! I take Family pictures, Couples photos, senior photos, Missionary photos and so much more! I am trying to grow my portfolio every day and hope to get more experience in Wedding photography. I am always up for a photo shoot and love to try new things as long as they are within my beliefs, because my company runs off God and good vibes!

As a photographer I am very proud of how far I have come. I continue to teach myself new things and keep working hard to spread my business! I also have learned to create beautiful work with the gear I already have and not belittle myself just because I don’t have the newest and most expensive gear!

I am set apart from others because I don’t just want customers, I want to create a relationship with you and help you feel comfortable in front of the lens. I don’t just take pictures to make money, I am SO passionate about this talent God gave me and I hope to always serve others with my art!

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Growing up, I was raised to always work hard in whatever I do and basically work unto the Lord. This trait has now made me successful because I strive to bring good work ethic everywhere I go. Regardless of what I’m doing, I always try to be a light or tool in God’s hands so He can use me to serve and bring others happiness along with His love. While growing up, my life was a bit of a roller coaster, but from those experiences I am now able to see the good in hard situations and to keep a positive mindset despite the challenges that come my way. I am so grateful for my parents who raised me well and reminded me to keep my life Christ-centered because it has led to a very successful journey so far!
