Conversations with the Inspiring Becky Seng

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Seng.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Becky. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, I guess the story goes back to when I was about eight years old and my mother taught me how to sew. I started making my doll clothes, then out of necessity, I made my own. I didn’t own a store-bought dress until I was out of high school. Bailey Jo’s is the end result of other ventures of mine (incorporating my sewing skills), which were always quests to make a living on my own creativity while seeking freedom from working for somebody else. Over the years, I’ve had many different jobs, liked some but disliked most. I’ve always thought if they can do it, I can do it too. So, using the ideas and skills I’ve acquired, I eventually landed at Bailey Jo’s, which is a custom cosmetic bag company.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s still a struggle! Every day is a quest for new outlets for my bags, new contacts, and new creations. I am a ‘seasoned’ woman (that sounds better than old, right!) and started Bailey Jo’s about a year ago, but the last ten years have led up to this. My advice to those younger women would be to stay the course! If you have a vision, stay with it. Sometimes, I get hung up on my age but soon chastise myself because of the negative thought pattern. I realize I’m stronger than that. But if I would have done this when I was younger, I’d be way ahead of the game. I don’t like to think about time wasted.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I specialize in custom cosmetic bags. I do a lot of western/cowgirl themed bags, which I absolutely love, including those with ranch brands. Most of them are one-of-a-kind. These are fantastic bridesmaid gifts and can be customized with fabrics, trims, fonts, etc. I believe in Made in the U.S.A.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
As important as your career is, your family comes first. Never forget that. After that… give it all ya got!
