Conversations with the Inspiring Baylee Pfister

Today we’d like to introduce you to Baylee Pfister.

Baylee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up an athlete, I was always busy from sun up to sun down. I continued on to be a collegiate athlete at Northern Arizona University. I was on the competitive cheer team and won a national title in 2014, then retired from the sport.

I got into fitness in 2013 because it is a way for me to continue to compete to be my best self. Throughout college, I was working out and eating clean, so I thought. What was really happening is I was overtraining an under eating. I went on to graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Public Health. I now had the information I needed to achieve and sustain a healthy lifestyle. The more I went to the gym, the more and more I got asked if I would compete in a bodybuilding show. After a couple of years of debating, I decided to go for it. I met Tim Sparks, my coach, at Die Had gym and he prepped me in about five months. I still continue to train with my coach Tim, because even coaches need coaches!

I never thought I would be a co-owner of personal training business. That was not my initial plan or my back up option. But after a year of teaching group fitness classes, I came to realize I had more to offer people. At the time, my business partner and college teammate, Jenna Homsey was also working for a corporate fitness studio. We got to talking about our passion for fitness and how we wanted to influence more people. A couple of months later, with just enough money to survive, we both quit our day jobs. This was the biggest risk either of us has ever taken. We now co-own GoFigure Personal Training (LLC) and have been in business just over a year now! We train in person clients and online clients to fit their lifestyle into fitness. We train people of all types! We have had clients who lost hundreds of pounds, and we have had nationally qualified bodybuilding competitors. GoFigure does more than send a client a workout program and a nutrition guide. We connect with our clients on a personal level and understand their emotional needs.

I am no longer a bodybuilder, but an all natural powerlifter. I hold multiple state records in the 132lb weight class here in Arizona. I love lifting heavy weight. The adrenaline and accomplished feeling you get when you hit a new PR is the reason I love this sport. I am living proof that you can be strong and feminine!

Has it been a smooth road?
The road to get where I am today had multiple unexpected turns and bumps. Going into college I wanted to be a Physician Assistant. Well, three months into college, I changed my degree. I decided on a Public Health degree because, like most 20-year-olds, I did not know what I wanted to be. How are you supposed to know what you want to do for the rest of your life? All I knew is I wanted to help people.

I went on to finish my college career and wanted to go to grad school for Occupational Therapy. I begin working at an all women fitness studio, where I taught group classes. Any spare time I got, I would shadow and volunteer to get hours for grad school. After spending months getting my application ready, the school I wanted to attend, denied me. I was heartbroken. I felt lost and did not know what I was supposed to do now.

I continued to teach fitness classes but knew I was capable of so much more. After a talk with my best friend and now business partner, we quit our day jobs and started our own training business. We believed in ourselves, but more importantly, we believed in each other. A year later and the business is doing better than ever.

You may not always have the answer or know what the right thing to do is. If you listen to your heart, watch for signs around you, and trust the process, you will get what you want. Never stop showing up. Continue to perspire until you wake up every day excited to do what you do.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into GoFigure Training story. Tell us more about it.
