Today we’d like to introduce you to Vidya Bhat.
Hi Vidya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My background as a first-generation immigrant with limited means and big dreams has shaped my journey. I worked as a healthcare professional for over 20 years. I embarked on my entrepreneurial path four years ago by diving into real estate investments. This experience gave me valuable insights into the business world and ignited my passion for creating opportunities. Recognizing the importance of STEM education and the growing need for technology skills among young children, I decided to make a difference in my community. With this goal in mind, I transitioned into a new venture aligned with my passions. I acquired two Code Ninjas locations in the Phoenix Valley, providing a dynamic and engaging environment for kids to learn to code and develop their love for technology. My Code Ninjas locations quickly gained recognition in the local community due to the enthusiasm and vibrant culture that I set up. It became the hub for young minds eager to explore the world of programming and technology. The impact it made on the lives of these children, nurturing their skills and encouraging their curiosity, fueled my determination to expand further. I have two successful Code Ninjas locations running in the Phoenix Valley, and I’m on the brink of opening my third location. Through my dedication and commitment to providing quality STEM education, I empower the next generation with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a somewhat smooth road. Like any journey, there have been challenges and struggles along the way. Here are some of the obstacles I encountered:
- Financial Constraints: Obtaining the necessary funds for my entrepreneurial endeavors was a significant challenge. I had to carefully plan and strategize my investments, seeking opportunities aligned with my resources.
- Learning Curve: Transitioning from healthcare to real estate investments to running Code Ninjas locations required me to acquire new skills and knowledge in Business operations. There was a learning curve involved in understanding the industry, developing efficient processes, and managing the operations of multiple locations.
- Building Reputation: Establishing a new business and gaining recognition in the community can be a daunting task. Initially, I had to work hard to build a reputation for my Code Ninjas locations and convince parents of the value and effectiveness of our STEM education.
- Managing Growth: As my business expanded with additional locations opening, managing the growth and ensuring consistent quality became a challenge. I had to develop efficient systems, hire and train competent staff, and maintain a high standard across all the Code Ninjas locations.
- Competition: The field of STEM education for children has seen increased competition over the years. Staying ahead of the competition, differentiating my offerings, and continuously innovating to meet the evolving needs of students required strategic planning and adaptability.
Despite these challenges, my determination, resilience, and passion for community service have helped me overcome these obstacles. Each challenge presented an opportunity for growth and learning, making me more equipped to navigate the path toward success.
We’ve been impressed with Code Ninjas, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
