Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Sands.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started in 2010, when I began training for a marathon. During the race, I injured my spine and was later diagnosed with grade III spondylolisthesis. After six months of therapy, I made the difficult decision to undergo spinal fusion surgery.
Following surgery, I began researching safe yet effective workouts for the spine. Barre and Pilates kept coming up as the top choices, so when I moved to Phoenix in 2012, I decided to give barre a try. From my very first class at a large corporate studio, I was hooked. The combination of low-impact movement with high-intensity results was exactly what I was looking for.
I started working at the front desk, then eventually trained as a barre instructor. I loved teaching, but I knew I wanted more — a space of my own where I could create community. When I moved to Mesa, I noticed something was missing: a barre studio that offered childcare. As a woman who always knew I wanted kids, I understood how hard it could be for mothers to prioritize their health and fitness. I wanted to remove that barrier.
Just as I signed the lease for my studio, the pandemic hit, delaying our opening for nearly six months. During that time, I poured my energy into designing the space, building out the studio, and perfecting my method — something safe for the body, fun to take, and inspiring for instructors to teach.
After a couple of years focused on barre, I expanded our offerings to include Pilates. I became certified in mat and reformer Pilates and continue to pursue my comprehensive training. Today, our studio is more than a place to work out — it’s a supportive community where movement, creativity, and strength come together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth ride. Being an independent studio — not backed by a franchise — came with its challenges. I didn’t have a corporate playbook, expert marketing tools, or guidance on how to lay out the studio. Most of my instructors were trained in-house, which was challenging but also incredibly rewarding. Together, we built something unique, from the ground up.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a small, women-focused studio in Mesa, AZ — created by women, for women. Our mission is to make fitness safe, effective, and empowering through low-impact movement.
We offer barre, Pilates, and yoga, along with our signature classes that blend primal movement, step aerobics, and small reformer sessions. Our motto is quality of quantity. We will always have smaller classes to ensure a positive experience at Vibe.
To support busy moms, we provide childcare during select midday classes. Our professional caretakers create an engaging, educational experience for little ones — so moms can focus on their health without worry.
What truly sets us apart is our community. We’re more than just a studio — we’re a supportive, inspiring space where women can move, connect, and grow stronger together.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Trust your gut, don’t take things too personally, and always remember — your team is your greatest asset. Treat them well
