Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Sublette & Travis Bottoms.
Hi Tyler Sublette &, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Nice Pest Company started with Travis and Tyler’s vision to build a pest control company that feels like a trusted friend in the industry. With years of experience and a genuine passion for helping others, we set out to offer more than just pest control—creating lasting relationships based on trust, reliability, and care. but it began long before that.
After leaving law enforcement, Travis never expected to end up in pest control. But one day, he watched his own pest guy work—someone who didn’t just spray a house and leave, but took the time to listen, connect, and make the customer feel taken care of. That moment stuck. It wasn’t about bugs; it was about people.
Years later, Travis became that “bug guy” for Tyler. Tyler was impressed not just with the service, but with how Travis carried himself and how he presented his company. The business was built on relationships, and community—not fear. Tyler saw an opportunity for something bigger. He originally wanted to partner with Travis in other service-based businesses, but the chance to grow something special in pest control was too good to pass up. That’s where the journey of Nice Pest Company began: two people aligned on building a business that put people first.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a new business in the pest control industry isn’t just about trucks, chemicals, or technicians—it’s about building a brand people know and trust. That’s easier said than done. Even with years of experience, launching a fresh company meant starting from scratch, introducing ourselves to a market already crowded with familiar names. We chose to reinvest every dollar back into the business instead of taking paychecks, which meant sacrificing in the short term to build something sustainable in the long term.
Scaling quickly came with its own challenges. Growth demanded more technicians, more vehicles, and more infrastructure than we could always afford at the moment. But we believed in the brand we were building—a brand centered on being approachable, people-focused, and trustworthy. Every reinvested dollar, every long day, and every uphill battle was about planting seeds for a company that could grow beyond us, and for a name—Nice—that customers would remember and share.
We’ve been impressed with NICE PEST COMPANY, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our mission is to protect homes while treating our customers with the same kindness and respect we would show our closest friends. Every service reflects our commitment to making sure your home is safe and comfortable, with a team that truly has your back.
We put people over pests. That sounds simple, but it’s rare in this industry. Our whole model is built on referrals and relationships. Nearly half of our customers come from referrals, which says a lot about the trust we’ve earned. We reinvested every dollar back into the business our first year—no paychecks, no shortcuts—because we wanted to grow the right way, not the fast way. On top of that, our branding is intentionally warm and approachable. Most pest companies lean into fear; we lean into family, friendliness, and being “nice.”
From the beginning, we knew we didn’t want to grow the traditional way—no door-to-door sales, no heavy advertising spend. Instead, we leaned into social media and built a brand that people wanted to talk about and share. Our content is lighthearted, authentic, and people-first, which resonates with our customers because it feels real, not corporate.
Influencers have been a huge part of that strategy. We don’t just partner with people who have big followings—we work with people who genuinely believe in what we’re building. That’s why it works: their communities trust them, and that trust extends to us. Some of our top influencers have brought in dozens of referrals in just a few months, and those customers tend to stay longer because they came through a personal recommendation.
The combination of social media storytelling and influencer partnerships has allowed us to scale quickly without losing that “local, approachable” feel. It is also a great way to make their technician a familiar face when they open the door. Our customers don’t just see us as a pest control company—they see us as part of their community.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Tyler: One of my favorite memories as a kid was how much I loved connecting people. Whether it was organizing neighborhood baseball games, introducing new friends at school, or even just making sure everyone had someone to sit with at lunch, I found a lot of joy in bringing people together. It wasn’t about being the loudest voice in the room, it was about making sure everyone felt included. That’s always stuck with me. Today, it shows up in the way we’ve built Nice Pest Company—not just around pest control, but around relationships. Connecting people, building trust, and creating community has always been my passion, and it’s become the foundation of our business.
Travis: Growing up, the field behind our house was where everything happened. Summers meant riding bikes, go karts, and dirt bikes from the moment the sun came up until the light finally faded. It was dusty, hot, and sometimes rough, but to us it felt like freedom. When we weren’t riding, we were building. The big paloverde trees became our castles in the sky, and we used wood scraps and whatever else we could get our hands on to turn them into forts. Some were barely standing, others felt like masterpieces, but each one was a place where we made memories and laughed until dark.
Those days weren’t about having the nicest equipment or the perfect setup. They were about creativity, resourcefulness, and being surrounded by friends who made everything more fun. We figured things out with what we had, and we built something out of nothing. Looking back, those long days in the field shaped how I see the world and how I approach business today. They taught me that with grit, imagination, and the right people, you can create something lasting out of almost anything.
